Teach For America Ambassador 2017-2018 (Flexible)

The Role

Teach For America Ambassadors fuel the movement toward educational equity by building and maintaining key relationships with students, faculty, and community members at their college or university. Broadly, this role focuses on networking with student leaders, building relationships with key faculty and staff, hosting and planning targeted networking, application and acceptance events, conducting presentations about Teach For America and education inequity, supporting Teach For America candidates in their application and interview process, and community building for prospective and accepted applicants. Ideal candidates have strong skills in relationship building, public speaking, networking, problem solving, goal setting, and project planning. Ideal candidates will also have demonstrated experience in working towards and achieving ambitious goals, as well as demonstrated leadership experience on campus.

Ambassadors report to a full time Teach For America Recruitment Team staff member, and must be able to commit to working at least 5-15 hours a week on a consistent basis with greater availability during peak periods throughout the recruitment season.

Training and Development Opportunities

Ambassadors will have access to a unique series of professional development and training opportunities focused on enhancing their understanding of Teach For America's impact in the 53 regions we serve. Ambassadors will also attend the 2017 Ambassador Summit, a multi-day training conference where you'll gain essential recruitment and cultivation skills, network with Teach For America senior leaders, learn from our community members, and meet other ambassadors and 2018 corps members from across the country.

Teach For America's Recruitment Team

The Teach For America Recruitment Team works to enlist this country's most promising future leaders in the movement to eliminate educational inequity. The team identifies and inspires thousands of potential corps members on college campuses and from multiple career sectors to apply to and join Teach For America. Additionally, the team is responsible for meeting our ambitious goals for the growth and diversity of our corps along racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic lines.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Networking and meeting with competitive prospective Teach For America candidates
  • Build relationships with university/college faculty and staff to advance Teach For America's recruitment efforts on campus
  • Identify and recommend student leaders to connect with full time recruitment managers and directors
  • Conduct classroom and student organization presentations
  • Plan and execute projects and events of varying scales to enhance the visibility of Teach For America on campus
  • Represent Teach For America at campus events, career fairs, in media opportunities, and recruitment opportunities
  • Mobilize and build community among students accepted to Teach For America throughout the recruitment season
  • Provide comprehensive support to Teach For America candidates, including application support, interview prep sessions, acceptance events, and networking
  • Partner with campus campaign coordinators and other campus recruitment staff to achieve results collectively
  • Building momentum for local and national underclassmen engagement opportunities and Teach For America's early admissions deadlines


Work Demands

  • Must be available to work at least 5-15 hours a week on a consistent basis, with greater availability during peak periods throughout the 2017-2018 recruitment season. Role will end no earlier than December 2017, with the possibility of extending through May 2018 on select campuses based on performance.
  • Must be able to attend weekly team meetings and check-ins with manager
  • Must be available to attend the Teach For America Ambassador Summit. Tentative dates are September 6-10, 2017. Location TBA. Travel, lodging, and meals will be covered by Teach For America.


  • Demonstrated skill in relationship building and networking
  • Strength in public speaking, and professional written and verbal communication
  • Experience in planning large projects, settings goals, and tracking progress to goals
  • Ability to speak in a compelling way about Teach For America's mission and your decision to become a corps member
  • Experience in Microsoft Office and Google Suite applications
  • Willingness to communicate with prospective candidates about Teach For America using personal social media accounts


  • Acceptance and confirmation of offer for the 2018 Teach For America corps
  • Hold one or more leadership roles on campus
  • Referral by Recruitment Manager, Director, or Managing Director of Recruitment
