Manager, Financial Systems- SQL Developer (New York City, NY)

The Role

The Manager of Financial Systems- SQL Developer is charged with executing the security, administration and reporting processes for Teach For America’s Clarity system. Additionally, this role will play an execution role in the maintenance of existing systems during the implementation of Workday Financials.

The ideal candidate is solutions-oriented, resourceful and is familiar with relational databases and object-oriented programming. This role is an opportunity for an individual interested in supporting our National Finance team with their primary resource for budgeting, forecasting, planning and analysis. This role reports to the Senior Managing Director of Financial Systems.

This role is scheduled to end on May 31, 2017 with the possibility of extension.

The Team

The Finance team ensures that Teach For America has the financial capabilities to support our organization and enables us to meet our short- and long-term goals. The team oversees all financial matters, including accounting operations, planning and analysis, grants and contracts administration, and payroll processes. An arm of the broader Finance team, the Financial Strategy & Innovation team is a capacity-building function charged with the implementation and oversight of the Finance Innovation Program initiative.



Execute & improve the Clarity security, administration, and ad hoc reporting processes. Along the way, the manager will gain powerful insight into the database utilized by Planning & Analysis for all budgeting and forecasting.

  • Responsibilities include, but may not be limited to:
  • Maintain the SQL Server Integration (SSIS), database and OLAP cube.
  • Support the financial reporting efforts of the Planning & Analysis team.
  • Support the overall financial systems of Teach For America.

Support the ERP implementation of Workday Financials.

  • Responsibilities include, but may not be limited to:
  • Workday reporting
  • Change management
  • Hierarchy Management & Coordination
  • Workday conceive/administer support structures for internal clients
  • Workday configuration


Prior Experience

  • 0 – 2+ years of experience with building financial reports (forecasting, budgeting and cash flow) and analyzing data.
  • Financial Accounting systems background preferred but not necessary.

Work Demands

  • Some weekend and evening work required.
  • Travel may be required (approximately once per quarter).


  • Familiarity with relational databases (SQL Server preferred)
  • Knowledge of object-oriented concepts
  • Advanced Excel (VBA, lookups, pivot)
  • Be a team player that can operate effectively, and with a sense of possibility, in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Demonstrate concise verbal and written communication that is targeted and appropriate to the needs of the audience
  • Display active listening skills
  • Engage team, partners and internal clients to promote full collaboration, multiple viewpoints, and maximize transparency
  • Build relationships and influence with business partners up to the Senior Leadership level to gain insights for solution research that result in improved solutions
  • Ability and willingness to travel occasionally (quarterly, depending on location)


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Related Field (Computer Science, MIS, etc.)
