Director, Donor Relations & Partnerships (Miami, FL)

The Role

Teach For America – Miami-Dade seeks a Director, Donor Relations & Partnerships (DDRP) to drive our campaign to raise over $2 million from individuals each year, enabling the Miami-Dade region to move more efficiently and effectively toward reaching ambitious revenue goals of more than $6 million dollars in operating revenue during fiscal year 2017 and work to continue to aggressively grow local revenue through 2020. The Director, Donor Relations & Partnerships will work closely with the Managing Director, Institutional Advancement (MDIA) and Executive Director (ED) to set and execute high level individual giving strategy and will be responsible for: growing the individual giving portfolio by over $800,000 in 2017 and charting a path for ambitious growth in the future; creating and executing an operational plan in order to meet fundraising goals; developing strategies and cultivation plans for a portfolio of donors and prospects; and managing up to the MDIA and ED to cultivate, solicit and steward donors as necessary.

The DDRP will report directly to the MDIA. In addition, the DDRP will work closely with (and ultimately manage) the Associate, Donor Relations & Partnerships (ADRP), working in tandem to inform the vision, goals, and strategy for increasing and diversifying the individual giving donor base.

To be successful, the DDRP must be a goal-oriented, charismatic individual who enjoys meeting and rallying key stakeholders around Teach For America’s mission. He or she must also be a critical thinker with a keen understanding of what motivates others; display sound judgment in prioritizing actions based on outcomes and data; must be able to work well across internal functional teams; and must be able to get results through others. Given the implications and importance of this work, we are seeking an exceptionally detail oriented individual who is willing to go above and beyond expectations in order to meet goals. This individual must also be exceptionally organized with strong attention to detail and a high bar for quality. The Team

Founded in 2003, our Miami Dade region has approximately 200 corps members reaching over 20,000 students. As we work to build strong local movements within each of our communities, we do so alongside our 400 alumni representing all sectors. Our regional staff is diverse, making for a collaborative, supportive environment that encourages the out-of-the-box thinking and an innovative spirit. Our Miami-Dade team boasts five teams working collectively to achieve educational equity in Miami-Dade. Our teams work together to reach our regional goals, which will propel us toward “One Day” in Miami-Dade, and serve as stewards of corps strength, alumni relationships, external (school, community, and donor) partnerships, financial resources, and team culture.

  • Our Program Continuum Team: We have conceptualized the development of our corps members across a continuum through which our people develop the knowledge, skills, mindsets and relationships needed to realize one day in Miami. There are three programmatic areas across the continuum that collectively ensure we make progress toward our regional and continuum vision. Each area is responsible for our people at different points across the corps experience and these experiences are connected by a shared understanding of leadership development. The three areas are CM Preparation & Institute, Teacher Leadership Development, and Alumni and Community Impact.
  • Our CM Preparation & Institute Team is a sub-team on our larger Program Continuum Team that is launching our first regional institute in Summer 2017 and builds a cohesive and meaningful pre-corps training for incoming corps members from matriculation through the first day of school and ensures that every corps member is ready to begin teaching on the first day of the school year.
  • Our Teacher Leadership Development Team is a sub-team on our larger Program Continuum Team that supports our corps members through their first and second years in the classroom through world class coaching and content expertise. This team works to build a supported and thriving corps and ensure meaningful classroom outcomes for students through culturally responsive classrooms.
  • Our Alumni & Community Impact Team is a sub-team on our larger Program Continuum Team that focuses on supporting a growing corps and alumni base to become high impact lifelong leaders by engaging and activating our corps and alumni constituents through community based leadership learning opportunities and movement building experiences.
  • Our Development Team ensures the financial strength and sustainability of our efforts by building and deepening partnerships with a diverse portfolio of private and public supporters, and ensuring that a strong, diverse local board is driving these efforts.
  • Our Strategy, Talent, and Operations team supports the work of our Executive Director and ensures we have best-in-class staff engagement, strategic direction, team-wide cross-collaboration, talent recruitment and development, operations and fiscal responsibility to foster a thriving team. Qualifications:

Responsibilities

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Growing, Managing, Cultivating, and Stewarding Donor Relationships (70%)

  • Create the long range regional individual giving vision and annual strategic and operating plans to ensure that the Miami-Dade Region maximizes opportunities, meets its goals, and significantly grows funding while building long-term sustainability
  • Maintain excellent relationships with a portfolio of individual donors and prospects who contribute more than $5,000 annually by:
  • Regularly meeting with existing donors and actively networking to develop and maintain a portfolio of new donors
  • Analyzing the interests of donors and prospect to develop compelling pitches (including verbal presentations, PowerPoint decks, and one-pagers), strategies and tactical plans to achieve goals for different donor segments
  • Creating a tailored cultivation or stewardship plan for every prospect and donor that results in successful retention of current donors and that maximizes the giving potential of both prospects and current donors
  • Producing consistent, high quality donor communication materials (including written appeals, renewal notices, reports, proposals, and event invitations) and creating compelling opportunities for current and prospective donors to engage with our program and effectively communicate the region’s vision, priorities and goals
  • Working closely with Board Members to deepen and grow individual relationships and networks
  • Support the MDIA in managing annual giving campaigns and prioritizing key actions for the ED and/or MDIA to take in cultivating, soliciting and stewarding donors through external meetings, events and correspondence and preparing/supporting them to execute
  • Analyze historical and market data to inform fundraising goals
  • Create high-quality meeting materials for the MDIA and ED to conduct meetings and school visits
  • Track and analyze progress to goal, in part by managing accurate and up-to-date records and data on donors; conducting analysis to identify what is driving and impeding progress; and working with the MDIA and ED to develop and implement solutions to address gaps
  • Manage and support the ADRP (who will manage the donor portfolio associated with the region’s development-related programs, e.g. volunteer and mentorship programs, Give Miami Day and KidsCorps Fundly, among other responsibilities)

Development Operations (20%)

  • Ensure timely processing and prompt acknowledgement of donations once secured
  • Utilize Salesforce database to manage, input data, and create tasks related to the individual giving portfolio, without exception
  • Conduct prospect research to build out donor base
  • Oversee the operational systems required to manage a high volume of donor cultivation, stewardship and research to ensure efficiency and effectiveness
  • Maintain meticulous records of donor engagement

Regional Team Responsibilities (10%)

  • Support all shared development team responsibilities, including board meetings, school visits, etc.
  • Attend and actively engage in professional development conferences learning groups
  • Participate in phone selection and/or in-person selection for up to three days each selection window (about 6-10 days total throughout the year)
  • Matriculate new corps members during 4-5 confirmation windows throughout the year
  • Staff large-scale regional events (such as All-Corps) often times for a whole day or multiple days at a time.
  • Participate in all-staff meetings, retreats, and step backs throughout the year in pursuit of a regional culture that lives out our core values for a strong, inclusive regional culture and cohesive regional team and vision

Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required

Prior Experience

  • 5-7 years of professional experience preferred with 3-5 years sales and/or development/fundraising experience
  • Management experience and/or prior involvement with Teach For America preferred
  • A demonstrated pattern of working to develop and better yourself and your teams is desired

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills when dealing with internal and external stakeholders
  • Comfortable with and excited by managing in an entrepreneurial environment with complex work streams
  • Ability to work weekends and evenings, as needed
  • Knowledge of MS Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel are a must
  • Knowledge of Salesforce and/or ability to learn new software applications quickly are preferred
