Business Analyst/Quality Assurance - Apply by 9/18 (NYC)
As the Director, Business Analyst/Quality Assurance, you will be responsible for gathering, understanding, and documenting business requirements, as well as assuring the quality of the technology that spans all digital channels and communications at Teach For America. You will be deeply connected to the web engineering team, user experience designers, and content strategists and be comfortable owning the chain of communication between business/user needs and the resulting execution of the work. The work you do will be central to how Teach For America achieves its powerful mission to transform society through educational reform.
The Director, Business Analyst/Quality Assurance will report to the Managing Director of Web and collaborate closely with the business stakeholders and the technology team of Teach For America's digital marketing organization.
Our Marketing and Communications team is charged with bringing to life Teach For America's mission and the collective impact of our network through storytelling. We drive the national brand and narrative for Teach For America, defining and stewarding the organization's brand identity, positioning, and key messages. We leverage strategic communications to rally the next generation of leaders to join Teach For America; to strengthen our community of corps members, alumni, staff and supporters; and to build broader understanding of our mission and impact in the context of educational inequity in America.
- Identify, collect, and document technical and business requirements
- Facilitate requirements gathering sessions with multiple stakeholders to extract requirements using best practice methods and tools
- Develop the design documents, requirements analysis, testing plans, process flows, procedures, and policies required to ensure transparency and clarity in the web development process
- Translate high level solutions into detailed architecture artifacts
- Align the business needs of stakeholders with the technology solutions
- Work with organizations and technical teams from multiple organizations
- Advocate for and operate under an agile/Lean UX environment with confidence
- Design and implement QA processes to ensure high quality of service is delivered to users
- Automate QA processes to allow fast and frequent releases to production
- Conduct a variety of quality assurance processes including smoke testing, unit testing, performance testing, load testing, and performance automation
- Conduct current state analysis as it relates to technology components
- Categorize issues, defects, and enhancements and assign severity levels that indicate priority for completion
- 6-8 years of business application and system related work experience in a large, complex organization
- Experience working with both business and IT groups
- Experience working with epic, user story, feature, and task tracking software for purposes of software development
- Familiarity with Drupal, PHP, and other web development technologies
- Strong analytical and business process modeling skills
- Strong user-facing skills with the ability to influence, advise, mediate, and control scope
- Passionate about educational equity as well as a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusiveness
- Able to think big, generate ideas and drive solutions to complex problems in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- An exceptional writer and oral communicator
- Skilled in the art of persuasion, with a deep sense of humility and openness to the perspectives of others
- Able to maintain a sense of possibility in the face of obstacles, and balance both short- and long-term results
- Bachelor's degree required.
- National travel for in-person meetings will vary throughout the year, but is estimated to include an average of 1 trip per month; some weekend and evening work expected.
