Imagine yourself going to work with one thing on your mind: you will monitor database performance by defining optimum values for database parameters; implement new database version releases; index maintenance scripts, and evaluate operating systems and hardware. As you tackle your new tasks for the day, you know that it will lead to one thing: you will recommend solutions by defining database structure and functional capabilities, database security, database user access management, data backup, and recovery specifications.
As Corporate Applications Manager (DBA), you will be able to troubleshoot, resolve database issues and concerns as they happen. You will support database functions by designing and coding utilities that can be re-used by team members; work with Systems Engineers and IT Administrators in maintaining existing applications and implementation of new software applications; install revised or new systems by proposing specifications and documents; coordinate installation requirements; ensure that the databases maintained are running in optimal performance and good health.
So, do you have what it takes to be a Corporate Applications Manager (DBA)?
So, what is it we’re looking for? Well since this is a Corporate Applications Manager (DBA) we need someone with at least 2-3 years experience with a degree in computer science, computer software/computer systems engineering, information technology, mathematics or operational research.
Now let’s get technical. We’re looking for someone who has first-hand knowledge in capacity planning, installation, configuration, database design, migration, performance monitoring, security, troubleshooting, as well as backup and data recovery.
What else? Well we need someone with problem-solving and good analytical skills; good communication, teamwork and negotiation skills; familiarity with the main data manipulation languages and the principles of database design; the ability to work in tight deadlines under pressure; good organisational skills; flexible and adaptable; able to create and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues and customers; able to keep up to date with developments in new technology; and an understanding of information legislation, such as the Data Protection Act.
Lastly, if you have some experience in programming and are able to familiarise yourself with as many database technologies and operating systems as possible; and possess the knowledge of structured query language (SQL), Unix and DBMS, then we want to talk to you!
