Lead Engineer - Disaster Recovery



As a Lead Disaster Recovery Engineer you will drive strategic technology direction of Disaster Recovery solutions and capabilities for critical infrastructure and applications. This position will work closely with other technology portfolios and product owners within Target as new technologies are being developed and supported.

  • Consult with product teams to align disaster recovery strategies with enterprise architecture solutions, representing multiple platforms, services, or tools
  • Drive disaster recovery testing methodologies; assist with the execution of testing and exercises
  • Design and govern disaster recovery architecture standards and procedures
  • Evaluate disaster recovery strategies and solutions for assigned portfolio to identify current risks and recommend improvements
  • Provide recommendations for back-up processes and fail-over procedures
  • Conduct analysis on disaster recovery architecture to ensure it can meet Recovery Time Objectives (RTO) and Recovery point objectives (RPO)
  • Translate business continuity needs to technical solutions based on a balance of architecture standards and plans, total cost of ownership and feasibility
  • Assess disaster recovery solution capabilities and relationships with 3rd parties and provide recommendations for improved resiliency


  • BS or MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline or equivalent experience
  • 8-10 years of experience in disaster recovery engineering
  • Has in-depth knowledge of state-of-the art engineering technical approaches in design, build, testing, debugging problems as required by domain
  • Maintains technical knowledge within areas of expertise
  • Stays current with new and evolving technologies via formal training and self-directed education

Preferred Requirements

  • Practical experience in developing and testing disaster recovery strategies in customer facing environments
  • Has a working knowledge of designing and constructing infrastructure platform architectures (server, network, desktop, database, storage and systems management)
  • Highly motivated leader with experience in complex IT multi-vendor and multi-team IT environment
  • Ability to rapidly learn new software languages, frameworks, and APIs
  • Experience in SCRUM and Kanban methodologies along with strong understanding of agile and lean practices.


  • Certification through an established Business Continuity or Disaster Recovery regulatory body such as DRII or BCI
