Sr. Optical Module Design and Integration Engineer
Interface directly with customers and independent hardware vendor (IHV) partners to influence the development and design of modules for state of the art optical sensor devices and assemblies, with emphasis on developing and documenting integration solutions for module assemblies mounted in to customer applications / systems (for example: lamination in to display stacks, integrating in to liquid crystal display module assemblies); Assess and mitigate risks associated with the product designs and solutions for system integration; Working with cross-functional groups to determine module requirements and provide guidance on module and package design with careful thought toward processability and ease of integration in customer systems. Design from concept to volume production to meet the electrical, optical, mechanical , thermal, and reliability requirements; Performing tolerance analysis of designs; Work with test engineering teams to assure design allows for test to validate the design initially and for mass production; Interacting with suppliers and end customers to optimize designs based on supplier's processes and capabilities and or customer needs; Generating component drawings, layouts, assembly drawings for product and tooling; Generating Bill of Materials (BOM); Analyze data and optimize yield,
International travel to Synaptics suppliers, partners, and customers may be frequent.
This role requires a bachelors in Science in Engineering, such as electronics, physics, chemistry, mechanics or the equivalent, as well as occupational experience in similar fields. Special preference will be given to candidates with a Master of Science in Engineering. The successful candidate needs to be fluent in spoken and written English and not opposed to traveling abroad. Fluency in Mandarin is expected. A minimum of 6 years of experience in the area of the photonics or semiconductor or related industry including hands on design and fabrication or high volume microelectronics manufacturing is essential.
Proven track record in product design and development from initial conceptual design to high volume production with special focus on direct interface with customer teams; Hands-on experience/knowledge with designing optoelectronic and microelectronic modules; Working knowledge and experience in high volume manufacturing fabrication processes in optoelectronic modules and LCD / OLED display fabrication, equipment and materials consistent with state of the art optoelectronic module assembly; familiarity with lamination processes in consumer display assemblies (LCD / OLED) including materials and equipment; experience working with / within the independent hardware vendor (IHV) ecosystem ; Demonstrated competency in 2D/3D design software such as Creo, Solidworks, AutoCAD; Working knowledge of FPC / PCB design and manufacturing, Fluent user of the following software packages: MS Windows, Excel, Word, MS Powerpoint. Team player with good communication skills; Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills. Detail oriented problem solver, sense of urgency and commitment to achieve targeted goals. Ability to work independently with limited direction, as well as in a team environment across functional and organizational boundaries is required. Demonstrated ability to juggle multiple priorities and deliver against a schedule; Expertise in the area of product and process documentation, schematics, and bill of materials; Prior design experience in high volume product environment such as CIS image sensor camera modules or products. Special consideration given to the candidate with experience with liquid crystal / OLED display module design and fabrication.
