Job Scope:

Synaptics is looking for a Senior ASIC Design Engineer with a focus on high performance digital video processing, especially video codec technology. The candidate will have the opportunity to join one of Synaptics' fastest growing R&D groups developing industry leading Smart Edge SoCs for IoT & consumer entertainment systems. The candidate will also collaborate with internal / external talents to contribute in a variety of technology domains such as video coding and decoding, video and image processing, ML / AI, computer vision, digital signal processing.


  • Algorithm research, micro-architecture design, RTL coding, synthesis, timing closure, documentation of various RTL blocks in video codec/video processing IPs
  • Top level and block level performance, bandwidth, power, and cost analysis and optimization
  • Collaboration with local and overseas firmware, software, DV, FPGA, DFT, SoC integration, and backend teams throughout various stages of ASIC development
  • Coaching and mentoring junior team members

  • BS or MS (preferred) degree in EE/EECS/CS or equivalent
  • 5+ years of experience in RTL logic design, verification, synthesis, and timing optimization
  • Proficiency in industry standard front end EDA tools and methodologies
  • Strong working knowledge of Verilog/SystemVerilog and C/C++
  • Thorough understanding of SoC interconnect protocols including AHB/APB/AXI
  • Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g. Tcl, Perl, Python) and flow automation in Linux
  • In-depth knowledge of one or more modern video coding standards (e.g. AVC, HEVC, VVC, VP9, AV1)
  • Hands-on experience in hardware video codec design a plus
  • Knowledge of embedded software programing and debugging a plus
