Senior Web Software Engineer (Lead)

As our Senior Web Software Engineer (Lead) you work with the team to plan and develop progressive solutions for projects involving web technologies.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Leading project planning and estimation activities in collaboration with other leads and senior team members
  • Developing and maintaining an understanding of project needs and objectives, and using this to develop a strategy that will ensure an optimal technical solution
  • Leading sprint planning and sprint review activities on a regular basis (charting out the path upcoming, and reviewing how the last stretch went)
  • Creation of technical flow charts and any other planning documentation required to ensure successful product development
  • Working with DevOps to
    • plan and execute project deployments
    • ensure the best development tools and build processes are being used
  • Javascript - reliable, confident, versatile Javascript
    • 'Javascript' may include any of the millions of different frameworks in the world as well as writing vanilla Javascript when the situation calls for it
  • Unit testing
  • CSS (for a world with many different shapes and sizes of screens)
  • HTML (accessible, consistent, acknowledging standards)
  • Interacting with APIs and participating in the planning of API development
  • Working with QA to ensure that high quality software is being shipped
  • Dealing with the anticipation of knowing hundreds of thousands of people are interacting with an interface that you assembled
The following skills / experiences / traits are indicators of success for this role:
  • Experience organizing working with a team toward Web Development project objectives
  • Demonstrable experience shipping products (things you have had a hand in building that you can point to on the Internet or an app store)
  • Education in Computer Science or a related field
  • A position, strategy, and perspective when it comes to
    • Responsive Design (or whatever you want to call the process of building interfaces that may appear on a variety of different types of screens)
    • Web Accessibility
    • Localization / /Internationalization
  • Enough experience with Javascript frameworks that you can explain some relative strengths, weaknesses, or preferences among them (any of Angular, React, Vue, Backbone, Meteor, FlavorOfTheMonth.js, WinJS, maybe something you wrote yourself, etc)
  • Experience utilizing Design Patterns (ie MV*)
  • Experienced with distributed version control systems (GIT, Mercurial)
