Senior Software Engineer

Job Description

At SUSE - SAP Technology Solutions, our mission is to simplify and modernize the operations of SAP software.

Join one of our engineering teams in developing project Trento , the latest addition to an extensive stack of tools specifically tailored for very complex and mission-critical workloads like SAP HANA databases and the S4/HANA enterprise applications.

Our typical users are SAP system administrators who leverage our "SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Application" operative system to run their most critical workloads. These are huge operations, like global manufacturers, retailers and logistics: few minutes of downtime may cause huge losses in revenue; we want to enable them in preventing this from happening.

Requirements

The ideal candidate is a passionate, driven and smart software engineer who takes pride in delivering excellent software, with a wide breadth of skills and some degree of depth in any specialty of choice, having a long experience on solving complex problems with software.

We are looking for a fast learner, able to embrace any common technology stack as the given tool of choice, knowledgeable on the latest tech trends and best practices, and striving to find the right balance between pragmatism and attention to details.

We will expect you to be:
  • very proficient with at least a couple of different common programming languages;
  • knowledgeable on generic fundamentals about software engineering and distributed systems;
  • familiar with open-source software development practices;
  • familiar with cloud-native technologies, e.g. Linux containers and the Kubernetes orchestrator;
  • confident with Git, the UNIX-style Command Line Interface, and other tools for the job;
  • fluent with English, both spoken and written;
  • a well navigated remote worker, located within maximum 4 hours of distance from the UTC time-zone.
We would also greatly appreciate:
  • established proficiency with the Go programming language;
  • established proficiency with the Elixir programming language and the Erlang/OTP platform;
  • an established track record of open-source software upstream contributions.
  • experience with Domain Driven Design and related software design patterns like CQRS/ES.
We do not put any particular emphasis on formal education: what matters most is what you can do, and how you do it.

Scope

You will be contributing, along with your peers, to the development of multiple projects, aimed at operating large-scale cloud, hybrid and bare-metal systems with a very specific purpose: running business critical operations with SAP software.

You will participate in daily video-conference team meetings, collaborate with your peers via real-time chat, GitHub and/or other various tools, ultimately presenting your technical achievements to the relevant stakeholders in iterative time boxes.

Perks

You will join a team with a remote-first mindset, geographically distributed across the EMEA region, championing a healthy work/life balance via flexible working hours and vacation policies.

Open-source is at the heart of SUSE: that means you will spend the majority of your work time on your public track record, contributing to the global FOSS community.

Your personal growth will be fostered by conference sponsorship, internal exchange and mentoring programs, hackathons, tech talks and learning courses.
