U.S. Tax Controversy
- Effectively serve as front-line interface with I.R.S. and state audit teams.
- Work closely with tax and non-tax business partners to forensically articulate and defend transactions and positions.
- Responsibly manage deadlines and conferences as audit cycle progresses.
- As needed, work closely with trusted advisors on matters of process and strategy.
- Participate in audit defense strategy and negotiation toward resolution.
- Work closely with Tax Compliance team, both for information-gathering and to align audit outcomes with going-forward positions.
- Understanding of state and local tax sales and use tax laws, property tax, regulations, policies and procedures
- A strong educational and technical tax background in tax research and compliance.
- Ability to review tax statutes and identify opportunities for tax policy and reform
- Provide assistance with technical research on various tax issues, including tax reform;
- BA/BS in accounting, CPA or law degree desirable. Masters in Taxation desirable.
- 8+ years progressively responsible experience in I.R.S. audit management and tax/accounting issues.
- Experience analyzing state and local tax laws.
- Detail-oriented and ability to work effectively on multiple tasks with strict deadlines
- Sound technical and practical judgment, permitting ability to work with a high degree of autonomy
- Able to communicate technical tax issues clearly to non-tax personnel and work effectively with all levels of internal process owners and external advisors.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment;
- Ability to function well with independent responsibilities. Candidates must be efficient and well organized. They should also have the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and interact successfully with the entire tax organization to effectively deliver quality tax services.
