Stryker Instruments is looking for a Senior Staff Systems Engineer to join the New Product Development team supporting our ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat) Business Unit!
This role is hybrid, in Plymouth, MN with the expectation to come into the office 3-4 days a week.

What You Will Do
This Senior Staff Systems Engineer will be part of a program that will shape the future of Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) and Neuro-surgery and associated treatments. Systems Engineers provide leadership for products and projects that involve multi-disciplinary engineering teams. They play roles in all aspects of a product lifecycle from Concept through Market Release and Sustaining. During the Concept Phase, Systems Engineers work to understand stakeholder needs and clinical use. They translate those needs to concepts and new inventions. During Development, Systems Engineers are responsible for ensuring the design meets the user needs through requirements identification and requirements decomposition. They achieve results using a variety of system engineering techniques such as: traceability, architecture, modeling, trade studies, simulation, and budgeting. Systems Engineers are also responsible for system integration and may lead the Verification effort. The best Systems Engineers are driven leaders, excellent communicators, creative problem solvers, domain experts, and can balance multiple competing priorities.
- As Systems Engineering subject matter expert, work with project teams to:
- Identify and translate user needs into system requirements
- Establish key performance attributes of the system
- Identification of technical risks and creating of comprehensive risk burn down plans
- Identify and define interfaces between ecosystem components
- Understand where the platform/project risks (ex: new, unique, and difficult features) are and develop plans to guide successful risk burn activities
- Guide/consult on integration planning and execution
- Lead technical team members in research, design, development, modification, and evaluation of medical device systems.
- Collaborate cross-functionally and across development programs to bring forward Stryker's next generation ENT surgical ecosystem.
- Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of user needs into total systems solutions that take into account various constraints (technical, schedule, and cost).
- Develop a deep understanding of clinical workflows and use conditions for ENT products to inform design teams of system performance, desired behavior, and usability.
- Lead Concept Phase activities for a new platform, technology, or capability.
- Lead and support team members to create or improve procedures, policies, processes, systems, and technology requirements.
- Develop and utilize tools to enhance the company's product/process development or performance.
- Identify and implement design and process solutions and ensures they are sustained over time.
- Lead and support complex product development for cross functional teams, influencing multiple technical areas of expertise.
- Hold team accountable to deliver high quality results with passion, energy, and drive to meet business priorities.
- Mentor, develop and influence across the business, intentionally building divisional relationships.
What You Need
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering; Electrical, Software, Mechanical or Biomedical preferred
- 6+ years of work experience
- Master's degree in lieu of experience
- Broad base of experience in implementing design methodologies such as DFM, Reliability and Systems Design.
Preferred
- Medical device industry or highly regulated industry experience
- Requirements Management Software, especially Jama.
- Experience with SysML and Model-based Systems Engineering.
- Expert knowledge of ISO 13485 and ISO 14971.
