What you will do:
As our Senior Manager, Sales and Use Tax, you will lead the sales and use tax team and be responsible for all aspects of the company's sales and use tax function.
This role is hybrid and we define hybrid as the ability to go into the office at least 2 days per week. Acceptable offices are located in Portage, MIchigan or Mahwah, New Jersey or Flower Mound, Texas.
In this role you will:
- Lead all aspects of the company's sales and use tax function.
- Manage end-to-end sales and use tax function for Stryker and subsidiaries.
- Oversee accurate, and timely filing and payment of all sales and use tax returns. Inclusive of data integrity, return review, payment authorization, and journal entry approval.
- Manage sales and use tax resources and third-party consulting relationships to ensure sales and use tax function operates efficiently while mitigating risk.
- Oversee sales and use tax audits and controversy to resolution.
- Manage exemption certificate maintenance and renewal process.
- Responsible for sales tax ASC 450 reporting, risks and exposure analysis.
- Proactively monitor legislation, jurisdictional administrative guidance and case law changes and advise on implications.
- Responsible for evaluating sales and use tax processes, procedures and automation to ensure sales and use tax processes are efficient and scalable.
- Participate in tax due diligence related to merger and acquisition activity as to sales and use tax issues/exposures; draft reports for finance and business development teams as needed.
- Manage integration of acquisitions into the current sales and use tax technologies and processes.
- Lead ERP implementation activities as to necessary sales and use tax requirements and manage sales and use tax team to cover testing as appropriate.
- Responsible for overseeing the maintenance of all tax engine instances.
- Meet with direct reports regularly to foster development and employee engagement.
- Participate in employee feedback process for direct reports via Stryker processes and procedures.
- Keep Stryker tax leadership properly informed relative to sales and use tax issues and progress.
- Participate in departmental tax projects as requested.
- Manage resolution of business operations and customer sales and use tax inquiries and issues.
What you need:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field is mandatory for a successful candidate.
- CPA, MST and/or JD strongly preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of sales and use tax experience.
- Prefer a combination of public accounting and corporate experience.
- Basic understanding of the monthly, quarterly, and year-end accounting reporting process preferred.
- Strong systems experience and desire to drive process improvements.
- Experience with Vertex and SAP a plus.
- Open to change in response to new information, different or unexpected circumstances, and/or ability to work in ambiguous situations.
