Senior Manager A2R European Operations

Job Description

The Senior Manager A2R European Operations performs advanced-level and managerial responsibilities as required to support the Shared Service model for multiple legal entities with several different ERP systems operating in multiple countries/languages as well as managing multiple different stakeholders.

These responsibilities include but are not limited to the following. Note that responsibilities may be added or removed as deemed necessary.

Accounting and Reporting

  • Maintains a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure
  • Ensures all transactions are in compliance with US and local GAAP and are posted in a timely manner
  • Ensure accounts are properly reconciled with documentation to support account balances
  • Maintains documentation to support account balances in a manner that facilitates the efficient review and audit of books and records
  • Ensures all financial transactions are properly recorded with sufficient documentation to support the business purpose of the transactions
  • Ensures an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close
  • Ensures the timely reporting of all monthly financial information
  • Leads continuous accounting simplification and standardization
  • Collaborates with the other finance managers/directors to support overall goals and objectives
  • Works with the internal and external stakeholders to ensure a clean audits
  • Assist in development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department
  • Supports internal stakeholders with special projects and workflow process improvements
  • Prepares and completes action plans and implements those plans to enable the business to achieve its objectives
  • Corresponds with the senior management regarding any financial decisions that are made
  • Coordinates with internal and external auditors to ensure audit objectives are efficiently and effectively achieved
  • Drives continued simplification of accounting operations and standardizes processes in close collaboration with peers

Balance Sheet Reviews
  • Perform regular reviews of balance sheet accounts to ensure the accounts are properly stated
  • Develop analytical capabilities in the team
  • Take necessary actions if material over/understatements are identified
  • Report findings and recommendations and ensure corrective actions are taken as necessary

Internal Controls and Compliance
  • Drives controls and compliance mindset within the team
  • Ensures all core processes are documented with risk and control points clearly identified
  • Ensures proper segregation of duties and delegated authorities are maintained and monitored
  • Ensures an efficient and effective system of internal controls to maintain compliance with SOX 404, anti-corruption / anti-bribery laws and regulation, Stryker policies and procedures and any other relevant laws and regulations
  • Maintain books and records to facilitate the efficient review of transactions and financial reports
  • Ensure regular monitoring of the effectiveness of internal controls and compliance processes
  • Proactively identify and report any compliance issues or emerging risks and development and implement mitigation plans

Stakeholder management
  • Develops and maintains strong relationships with Europe finance leadership
  • Works with stakeholders to define clear roles and responsibilities as well as key metrics
  • Leads periodic stakeholder reviews on A2R metrics and service delivery

People Management
  • Supervises staff to ensure all financial reporting deadlines are met
  • Ensure roles and responsibilities are clearly communicated and documented
  • Develops succession bench for key roles
  • Conducts periodic talent reviews and advises direct manager on actions
  • Works with each direct report to establish goals and objectives for each year and monitor and advise on the progress to enhance the professional development of staff
  • Makes self available as coach / mentor in assisting direct reports to develop in their positions
  • Ensures that relevant information is communicated to direct reports enabling them to effectively carry out their functions
  • Delegates tasks to direct reports in line with skill, knowledge and ability and where necessary identify skill gaps and training requirements
  • Provides training to new and existing staff as needed
  • Take necessary steps to address issues that may impact performance
  • Handles personnel issues relating to staff conflicts, absenteeism, performance issues, etc.\
  • As required, become involved in relevant personnel matters including recruitment, termination and counseling


Other Essential Duties

The following outlines additional duties of the Senior Manager A2R European Operations that ensures the financial accounting and reporting function is meeting and exceeding the needs of the business. These duties include but are not limited to the following:
  • Ensures the strategy of the department is effectively implemented by ensuring consistent communication, reinforcement and management of defined objectives
  • Acts as back up and representative for Director A2R on a need by basis.
  • Supports staff resource planning, organizing, and monitoring of key processes, including assisting in hiring, training, and evaluating staff, and taking effective actions to address performance matters
  • Supports processes related to the identification and evaluation of the organization's risk areas and provides significant input to the development annual business plans
  • Ensures critical business processes are well documented and communicated to facilitate effective and efficient execution
  • Develops and maintains productive team-oriented client, staff, and management relationships through individual contacts and group meetings
  • Pursues professional development opportunities, including external and internal training and professional association memberships, and shares information gained with co-workers.
  • Represents the function on organizational project teams

Education

  • Degree in Business and Administration
  • MBA (preferable)
  • Professional certification in accounting or progress toward completion
  • Fluent in English
  • Familiar with USGAAP, Sarbanes Oxley Act
  • Familiar with Oracle and Hyperion (preferable)

Experience

Minimum experience of 5 years in an accounting manager, SSC or equivalent position in a multinational (preferably American) or an auditing company (one of the big four).
