Who we are looking for

Charles River Development is looking for an experienced Cloud Platform Engineer who will work on the Engineering, architecture, and design of our SaaS Cloud Native platform. In this role you will interface with engineering teams, product management, business units and internal customers to define and deliver robust, scalable, and agile architectures in support of the rapidly growing product capabilities. You will lead teams to plan, design, build and participate in deploying both enterprise Azure PaaS services & 3rd party technologies in the Azure Public Cloud. This role focuses on the architecture & engineering of the foundational cloud infrastructure, shared services, DevOps processes and tooling that will underpin the next generation platform. This includes storage, container, compute, networking, and services deployed across the globe and with a strong, forward-looking security architecture for a growing range of compliance standards.

The team you will be joining is a part of Charles River Development (or CRD), that became a part of State Street in 2018. CRD helps create enterprise investment management software solutions for large institutions in the areas of institutional investment, wealth management and hedge funds. Together we have created first open front-to-back platform - State Street Alpha, that was launched in 2019.

What you will be responsible for

  • Azure Cloud Native architecture, design, and development with focus on container orchestration architecture, microservices, data analytics and virtual networking
  • Work closely with cloud governance, application & infrastructure architects, and engineers to design, implement and manage secure, scalable, and reliable cloud native infrastructure environments for CRD business applications/products
  • Design, engineer and implement next generation cloud native solutions into Azure public cloud
  • Propose, design, and implement cloud infrastructure transformation and automation-based solutions based on various CRD's product requirements
  • Assist CRD business application customers in building, troubleshooting, and optimizing container-based cloud infrastructure
  • Ensuring operational readiness for launching secure and scalable enterprise grade workloads into public cloud environment
  • Assist with implementation of DevOps practices in implementing and tuning continuous integration (CI) and continuous deployment (CD) for technology platforms
  • Work closely with CRD application teams & 3rd party vendors to validate and troubleshoot existing CM practices, and make recommendations for improvements and optimization
  • Assist application teams with microservice and event driven architecture solutioning along with design specifications and implementation of industry best practices and standards
  • Assist with application product releases to production environments
  • Develop and implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) provisioning solutions
  • Assist with design and implementation of virtual networking (DNS, routing, firewall) based solutions for cloud native applications and platform components
  • Participate in research and engineering solutions for emerging cloud technologies and proactively recommend areas where they can bring business value
  • Define standards and best practices by conducting POCs for new cloud technologies leveraged by the development organization and engineering teams
  • Provide expertise and serve as a Subject Matter Expert regarding Cloud for both infrastructure and applications in cloud platform
  • Work closely with the Global Cyber Security, Cloud Governance, Solution Architects and Cloud Operations Team with any security-related issues that arise and maintain a log of operational activities performed
  • Perform technology investigations to develop and maintain the knowledge base of current leading edge and developing technologies with the goal of using the knowledge to identify emerging business opportunities and in support of existing business programs
  • Be the liaison with project teams on cloud technologies and solutions
  • Ensure that all cloud solutions follow security and compliance controls
  • Provide thought leadership on cloud platform technology usage and target state visions

Education & Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Technical or Analytical field required, Master's preferred
  • 10+ years of experience managing large scale, production Linux environments
  • 3+ years of extensive experience with container-based infrastructure (Docker, Kubernetes, Amazon EKS, AKS (Azure Kubernetes Service), Rancher, OpenShift, etc.)
  • Experience with infrastructure-based scripting (BASH, Python, etc.)
  • 5+ years of cloud solutioning experience, preferably with Azure cloud
  • Demonstrated cloud IaC deployment experiences using DevOps practice
  • Experience with PKI, SSL, TLS, SSH, DNS technology stack
  • Experience in automation and building deployment pipelines for production and staging platform
  • Working experience in Github, Gitlabs, Ansible, Terraform will be preferred.
  • Working experience with Active Directory, Azure Active Directory based service principals, managed identities
  • Working experience with highly segmented networks and security concepts, methods and technologies in a large scale, production Azure public and hybrid clouds
  • Prior enterprise cloud architecture/design/solutioning experience or equivalent cloud architect/solution expert certification a huge plus
  • Experience with log collection tools and analysis, as well as infrastructure performance monitoring tools and optimization practices
  • Excellent communication, documentation and troubleshooting skills
  • An innovative approach to work, constantly looking to upgrade the system to more efficient and effective modern technologies and processes
  • Strong analytical experience, ability to speak-up when needed and presentation skills suitable for senior management level, cloud engineering and architecture stakeholder meetings

Additional requirements

Work experience in multiple public cloud preferred
