Your Opportunity

As a mining engineer, your role is to work with direct supervision and general direction on tasks and smaller projects, and as a team member of larger projects under the guidance of a Senior Engineer/Designer. Mining engineers use their technical knowledge/capabilities and up-to-date engineering and design tools and innovations to ensure mining operations are carried out in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Support project team in development of design documentation, plans, and reports for relevant project design elements.
  • Prepare and revise documentation in various project phases including site plans, diagrams, and details.
  • Assist in the review of drawings and submittals, respond to request for information, prepare site reports, and perform other contract administration tasks.
  • Assist in the evaluation and selection of mining systems and materials.
  • Attend project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants.
  • Participate in value engineering and basic cost estimating.
  • Implement sustainable design principles into the design and surrounding environment.
  • Evaluate, select, specify, and engineer all mining engineered systems.
  • Perform mining design using knowledge of relevant software programs.
  • Utilize technologies in development of three dimensional models of mining systems and provides markups for junior engineers/designers.
  • Work with other engineering disciplines and professionals in the coordination of the project under the direction of a senior engineer/designer.
  • Participate in project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractor, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Participate in client project requirement meetings, value analysis, and basic cost estimating.
  • Participate in constructability reviews.
  • Conduct quality assurance and quality control on own projects and projects of peers.
  • Participate in and provide guidance in the development of new standards and specifications for the mining group.
  • Perform field work as directed by a senior engineer/designer.
  • Perform basic calculations to analyze and design mining system components using company standard software and proprietary manufacturer software.
  • Assist with engineering duties on projects of various complexity.
  • Assist with collecting data and gathering information to support design decisions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the senior engineering staff.
  • Assist in basic interpretation and verifying compliance with applicable codes and engineering standards and practices.
  • You may perform a variety of tasks that may include analyzing proposed project solutions to ensure structural reliability, resource efficiency, and cost effectiveness.
  • You may also construct models to identify project specifications and meet related needs by performing routing aspects of engineering assignments.

Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Basic understanding of all phases of engineering document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
  • Recognize when technical problems are developing and initiate appropriate corrective actions.
  • Ability to check own work for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.
  • Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.
  • Basic understanding of general concepts of relevant areas of mining engineering design.
  • Understanding of mining engineering concepts and ability to effectively communicate ideas to others.
  • Developing cooperative skills in working efficiently within a team.
  • Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Engineering and EIT.

Minimum of 2-4 years of experience. Co-op/Internship experience preferred. Working toward license.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
