Your Duties
- Monitor the work of contractors to ensure quality control and contractor compliance for roadway, structure and bridge construction projects of varying complexity
- Inspect and monitor assigned field work activities on a project to ensure conformance to plans, specifications, and other contract documents
- Coordinate work and inspections with contractor's representative, client personnel, and other stakeholders
- Checks lines, grades, dimensions and elevations using standard surveying and field measuring equipment
- Advises contractor of non-conforming work or other violations of the contract requirements. Works with the contractor to identify and implement appropriate corrective action
- Ensures that highways work zones and traffic control setups conform to contract requirements
- Prepares and reviews daily inspector reports for preparation of entries into project diaries and is able to properly document materials as well as other test reports for materials
- Tests and / or samples materials as required, coordinates with testing laboratories as needed or required
- Assist in contractor's monthly evaluations, progress payments, and progress meetings

Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Associate degree (AS) or Bachelor degree (BS) in an engineering field or relevant experience in bridge construction, roadway, utility, and asphalt paving, can be used in place of degree
- Minimum three (3) years of inspection experience which demonstrates a working knowledge of roadway, structure, and bridge construction methods, materials, standards, construction symbols and terminology
- West Virginia Division of Highways (WVDOH) experience
- Have working knowledge of WVDOH standards, specifications and manuals and be skilled in operating computer equipment, software programs and field inspection equipment
- Read and interpret roadway, structure and bridge plans and specifications.
- Maintain detailed records
- Experience with Site Manager and Project Wise
- Experience with LIMS program and certification of materials for projects
- Perform required materials testing
- Communicate effectively with the agency and contractor personnel and the general public
- Ability to work at heights, and within confined spaces with the required training for these activities
- Either possess or be able to obtain a WVTRET Certification and any necessary WVDOH Materiel Testing Certifications
