Your Opportunity

Stantec's Elko, NV office is currently seeking an on-call Staff Environmental Scientist/Technician to join our team. You will assist in collecting defensible environmental field data and preparing reports for a variety of projects and clients.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Perform surface water and groundwater sampling.
  • Provide Habitat Evaluations on federal lands.
  • Conduct biological baseline surveys.
  • Collecting samples for accurate logging on chain of custody documents and submission to independent laboratories for analysis.
  • Assist in completion of technical reports.
  • Actively participate in maintaining Stantec's safety culture.
  • Learn and follow standard operating procedures for work assigned.
  • Work in remote locations performing sampling and surveys.
  • Candidates may also be requested to support other service areas related to environmental investigation and cleanup projects.
  • Physical Demands
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, climb and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to use hands to operate field equipment.
  • Field work may include exposure to the elements and may require standing and walking for long periods of time.
  • May be subject to periods of extreme heat and cold and other environmental conditions such as wind, rain, and humidity.

Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong note-taking skills and attention to detail.
  • Basic understanding of technical writing skills.
  • Experienced at working well in a team atmosphere and independently as required.
  • Knowledge of field sampling techniques.
  • Must have the willingness to learn new skills while conducting field work
  • Conscientious, organized, and disciplined.
  • Builds and maintains productive professional and personal networking relationships.
  • Self-motivated and ability to work independently and with a team.
  • Good driving record and valid driver's license required.
  • Prior to employment with Stantec, this position will require the successful completion of a drug & alcohol screening.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree or pursuit of degree in natural sciences, biology, ecology, or environmental engineering preferred.

0-2 years' experience in environmental science or similar, with both field and office experience.
