Your Opportunity

This is a seasonal Ecosystem Restoration Technician position working with our Ecosystem Restoration group out of Stantec's Cottage Grove, Wisconsin office carrying out tasks related to prairie, wetland, and other natural community restoration and management. This is a full-time (40 -hour work week), limited-term position.

Your Key Responsibilities

Ecological Restoration: Specific job tasks include application of various herbicides, mowing, installation of native seeds and plants, prescribed burning, and brush/tree removal. Equipment operations may include the use of chainsaws, backpack herbicide sprayers, ATVs, and tractors / skid loaders with various attachments.

Environmental Data Collection & Reporting: Assist project managers, staff scientists, and senior scientists with the collection of field and written/tabular data for various tasks. Maintain records for restoration activities and safety programs and assist with report preparation on an as-needed basis.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

Required:
  • Valid state driver's license
  • A good driving record
  • Ability to walk 2-4 miles per day over rough terrain and lift up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather conditions
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative attitude
  • Ability to self-start and work independently

Preferred:
  • Familiarity with invasive species and local land/water conservation issues
  • Knowledge of Wisconsin flora, plant identification, natural areas, and ecology

Other Beneficial Qualifications:
  • Experience utilizing hand power tools (e.g. chainsaw/brush saw) and operation of ATV/UTV; and
  • Experience driving light trucks and trailers
  • Valid Class A commercial driver's license
  • Experience using GPS/GIS

Education and Experience
  • Pursuing or have obtained Undergraduate or Associates Degree in an environmental discipline
  • Ability to obtain WI Pesticide Applicators licenses within one month, including "Aquatic and Mosquito" and "Right-of-Way and Natural Areas". See DATCP info: datcp.wi.gov/Pages/Licenses_Permits/CommercialApplicator.aspx .
