Your Opportunity

The role of an Engineer-in-Training Civil Engineer (water resources emphasis preferred) is to work on small and large projects under the close guidance and supervision of a senior engineer or technical staff. The candidate should be familiar with the evaluation, selection, specification process for engineer systems or products for water resource projects. You will perform a variety of tasks which may include calculations, field work, coordination of simple tasks, and meeting attendance and recording.

In general, an entry level civil engineer will assist more senior engineers and technical staff by performing the routine aspects of civil engineering assignments.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Use knowledge of general concepts of relevant civil engineering elements including system hydraulics, surveying and topographic mapping, geotechnical considerations, grading, utility investigations and analyses.
  • Assists team in preparing civil designs, drawings, specifications, presentations and reports.
  • Conducts basic calculations and performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned and under the supervision of a project engineer.
  • May perform field work related to pilot and/or construction related activities.
  • Assists in supporting the civil team in providing support services during construction that can include submittal reviews, responses to requests for information and contract document clarifications.
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.

Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Basic understanding of general concepts of relevantareas of civil engineering design including gravity and pressure systems,geotechnical considerations, permitting issues, survey, stormwater/drainage design, road design, erosion and sediment control, andgrading.
  • Ability to participate and collaborate in project teamsetting and to engage in creative and critical thought.
  • Understanding of civil engineering concepts and abilityto effectively communicate ideas to others.

  • Ability to interpret sketches, engineering drawings,and other similar material.
  • Basic experience in Microsoft Office (specificallyMicrosoft Excel), and relevant discipline software programs, which mayinclude AutoCAD Civil3D, ArcGIS, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, PCSWMM/XPSWMM (or othermodeling software).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Educationand Experience

Bachelor's degree

or equivalent in Civil Engineering. Master's degree is preferred.

Engineer-in-Training Certification

Minimum of 0-2 years of experience.

Relevant co-op/Internship experience preferred.

Typical office environment working with computers and working at a desk for

long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including

inclement weather.
