Global Tax Lead

The Tax Lead will be a trusted member of the Finance team, who will promote tax and regulatory compliance through practical guidance and subject matter expertise.  This role will involve tax compliance, as well as tax planning. You will utilize a variety of skills to solve problems, including: tax strategy & planning, research, accounting, compliance, international regulations, and tax expertise. This position reports to the Corporate Controller.


  • Lead & maintain Squarespace’s global tax strategy: both design & implementation
  • Assist outside firms in the preparation of various federal, state and international regulatory tax filings
  • Prepare and file monthly/quarterly sales and use tax filings for the Company’s US operations and VAT filings for the Company’s international operations
  • Ensure the Company is in compliance with all US Federal and State tax filings, including research and document state tax nexus
  • Periodically analyze and document the Company’s transfer pricing policies
  • Develop, document, and implement various tax reporting policies and procedures
  • Prepare estimated tax accruals based on the latest Company budget and/or projections
  • Review the Company’s legal structure, NOL carryforwards, transfer pricing agreement and future operating projections in order to make recommendations as to the best tax strategy for the Company
  • Review the company’s global tax structure options, to optimize short and long term tax position


  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, tax, or finance is required; CPA is preferred
  • 5-8 years of experience in tax information reporting, tax operations, federal or state taxation, or corporate compliance
  • Ability to read and interpret tax laws and regulations, including certain international laws
  • Strong ability to analyze, research, and resolve problems. Able to utilize knowledge of business and trade practices to evaluate the overall business operations and financial condition of the Company and provide practical solutions to the issues that are identified
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to describe complex tax issues in a way that non-experts can understand
  • Ability to successfully interact and collaborate across the organization, as well as with external regulators and auditors
