Data Management Ops Team Senior Manager

Hyderabad, India

As the India Data Management Operations Manager for the Enterprise Data Management Organization (EDM) at Splunk, you will be responsible for the management of the team of data developers, engineers, analysts, architects and project managers responsible for delivering data governance & data engineering products and services. Working with program managers you will drive work planning, cooperation, and execution across teams as they support the US Data Governance Stewards and Enterprise Data Engineering teams within EDM.

In this role, you will provide local team management, including recruiting, onboarding, coaching, goal setting across the India governance developer and data engineering teams. You will establish performance metrics to show the output, turn-over and efficiency of India based EDM operations and use those to drive continuous improvement. You will establish an effective work intake management framework that the US team can use to request, plan and execute data governance and engineering work required for business transformation programs, "run the business" activities, and EDM growth programs used to extend and improve data governance, warehousing and analytics value for Splunk.

Responsibilities:
  • Establish a strong collaborative team culture among data developers, engineers, project managers, data analysts, etc. who make up the India Data Management Ops Team
  • Locally manage recruiting, hiring, coaching, development & offboarding processes for India team
  • Establish, manage & communicate team operational metrics to drive resource utilization, and efficiency in support of US based team priorities
  • Annual goal setting for your team, linked to EDM strategic priorities, and tracking of performance against those goals
  • Establish an effective work intake process (in collaboration with project managers) to ensure work is prioritized, assigned, and executed to maximize team productivity
  • Provide routine executive communications to EDM leadership on team performance, opportunities, escalations, against project and "run the business" operations work
  • Establish and deliver performance metrics on the India team work portfolio
  • Oversee development and training requirements of engineers, developers, and analysts to ensure skills and certifications related to their responsibilities are maintained
  • Locally oversee the India team project managers to ensure that an efficient portfolio management strategy is in place to maximize utilization and effectiveness of engineering and developer work
  • Act as the local senior subject matter expert on data governance and data engineering platforms used by the EDM team
  • Oversee and step in to provide direction and leadership on team work deliverables, to help team members unblock and accelerate decision making and actio
Requirements
  • 12+ years of experience in data engineering and/or data governance roles, with prior experience as a data developer, engineer, solution architect
  • 8+ years of people management experience leading data engineering and developer teams in warehousing or data governance organizations
  • Prior experience deploying data warehouse, data lake, and/or data lake-house architecture
  • Prior experience leading deployments of data governance products such as SAP Data Services, Collibra, Atlan
  • Strong Experience with Python, Snowflake, Tableau (Data Engineering Technologies)
  • Strong Experience with SAP Data Services, Collibra (Data Governance Technologies)
  • Strong Experience with JIRA, SNOW, Planview, Smartsheets, or similar (Project Management Technologies)
  • Experience using Agile SDLC/PDLC practices
  • Excellent communication, planning, and organizational skills
  • Experience defining and using operational KPIs / KQIs to metricize and report on performance of team operations
