PR/Brand Director

Responsibilities

The Director of PR & Brand Communications will be responsible for setting the vision, defining strategy and driving execution of Spanx Brand Marketing & Communications initiatives. The Director will oversee key brand marketing initiatives including, partnership marketing, public relations, consumer events, influencer programs and brand marketing materials. This position is responsible for increasing brand awareness through the creation of comprehensive communications strategies, strategic promotions and partnerships designed to reach external audiences, including consumers, key influencers, and other clients. The Director will harness integrated marketing communications, brand building, corporate communications, stakeholder engagement, and issues management to advance the Spanx brand.

  • Execute innovative brand marketing and PR campaigns, including consumer initiatives, partnerships, sponsorships, endorsements, events, and brand activations
  • Proactively pitch story angles and secure top-tier press coverage across lifestyle, fashion and consumer outlets
  • Lead all media relations and corporate communications with an eye towards developing long term, authentic media relationships that deepen Spanx connections with the press and consumers
  • Develop, communicate, and oversee a strategic plan in building the Spanx brand, and enhance customer loyalty via public relations & digital channels, including social media
  • Define and execute a disruptive PR and Experiential strategy as part of Spanx product launches
  • Lead annual PR calendar including key launches and events across all Spanx, Inc. brands
  • Develop and manage strategic partnerships and influencer programs to enhance brand awareness and increase sales
  • Provide subject matter expertise, content and input to executive leadership
  • Manage agency and in-house PR partners and lead focus on global press leverage
  • Develop comprehensive creative briefs reflecting the strategic objective of each program and initiative, as well as the required deliverables, assets, budget, and timeline
  • Identify, evaluate and recommend sponsorship and partnership opportunities, strategic collaborations and product placement – including charitable giving and contributions
  • Develop social and emerging media strategies to help drive the business
  • Oversee press release writing, editorial product placement, sample trafficking and media tracking
  • Lead and manage annual plans and budgets
  • Work with Vice President Creative Director on implementing strategy for Sara Blakely and across the eco-system

Qualifications

  • 10 years of experience in fashion-related public relations and/ brand marketing with demonstrated success including features secured in top-tier print, online and broadcast outlets
  • 10 years of experience building and leading powerful teams
  • Demonstrated skill in managing people, high EQ, creativity, and a command presence
  • You have played a leading role in managing global, disruptive campaigns for lifestyle brands, as well as managing outside agencies
  • A proven track record of developing and executing innovative PR strategy
  • A collaborative nature with finesse in developing relationships cross-functionally
  • A strong track record working with top tier press
  • Meaningful experience with agency/vendor management
  • Sense of humor
  • Ability to utilize use cases and data analysis to present/pitch concepts
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of social media platforms and their respective participants and how they can be used to drive the business and brand
  • Exceptional interpersonal, networking and verbal and written communications skills
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or a related field
