Responsibilities

The Design Director for Intimate Apparel is a strategic leader and hands on team member responsible for clearly directing and driving cohesive design and execution of the Spanx collections across bras, shapewear, panties and intimates while maintaining Spanx brand integrity. The Director has many responsibilities among which are mentoring, guiding, and developing the design team through its evolution in its organization, processes, and its partnerships with all cross-functional teams.

  • Design and create new innovative products and update existing products that deliver to specific consumer needs and help support the sales goals of the company
  • Ensure garments meet fit and construction goals and consumer fit acceptance for their respective brands
  • Responsible for being highly influential in the development of the Seasonal and Monthly Concepts and expanding beyond existing products into a cohesive collection
  • Partners across Design and Product Development to collaborate and lead on fabric, print, trim, silhouette, outfitting, and fit across multiple seasons and all stages of the development cycle
  • Develop long and short-term strategic product plans for the Design team and design processes in order to support business strategies while collaborating cross-functionally
  • Develop and promote strong relationships with internal and external services, vendors, and suppliers
  • Responsible for staying abreast of current market and trade trends through frequent travel
  • Involved in research and analysis of upcoming fashion, market trends and competitive product offerings to understand the over-all market and to identify opportunities and design features relevant to our product
  • Understand and communicate key brand strategies and consumer needs in order to direct the design team effectively
  • Responsible for maintaining current knowledge of the Spanx customer through regular store visits and attending key business meetings

Qualifications

  • 10 years of experience in Intimates Design with demonstrated success
  • 10 years of experience building and leading powerful teams
  • Requires strong knowledge of sewing techniques, pattern construction, fitting, grading and costing
  • Expertise knowledge of fabrics and pattern-making skills
  • Exceptional Silhouette, Color and Trend forecasting ability
  • Expertise in bra design construction in average figure; full busted and full figure a plus
  • Strong knowledge of shapewear compression garments
  • Strong knowledge of intimates/non-compression garments
  • Knowledge of Men’s underwear is a plus
  • Must demonstrate strong planning and organizational skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to travel
  • Excellent time management skills 
  • Must demonstrate the ability to make effective presentations and professionally communicate ideas
  • Strong creativity and be able to translate ideas into commercial products
  • Team player with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Have a passion for innovation and technology
  • Must have strong aesthetic that will help inform branding and social media
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Illustrator, Photoshop
  • 4-Year College Degree; preferably in Design
