Job Description

This is a full-time position Tues-Sat 8am-4pm, with live-on discount available (15%). Please have basic carpentry, plumbing and appliance repair skill. Technical training is always available!

Our Maintenance Team is a truly valuable part of the Southern Management family. Maintenance Service Trainees are learning on-the-job, while being paid and attending classes at our Maintenance Training Academy. The focus is on building technical and customer-care skills to Southern's superior standards.

As a Service Maintenance Trainee, there is no typical day, but you might end up doing some of the following:

  • Shadowing one of our top Service Technicians during replacement of a garbage disposal
  • Driving to the Maintenance Training Academy to attend a Basic Electric or Plumbing class
  • Preparing apartments for painting and cleaning
  • Gathering materials for an apartment turnover from the maintenance shop
  • Painting fences and railings

You have:

  • Ability to keep neat and accurate records of time and materials
  • Knowledge of mechanical, math, and measurements skills
  • Schedule flexibility--ability to work any day of the week and take emergency call
  • Knowledge, understanding and demonstration of preventive maintenance
  • Knowledge of the use and care of tools and equipment necessary to perform building maintenance tasks
  • Knowledge of the current methods, practices, tools, equipment and materials used in building maintenance and repair work, to qualification and training level
  • Working knowledge of appliances, plumbing, electric, carpentry, drywall, painting, blinds and traverse rods, hardware, screens, doors, key cutting, cabinets and counter tops, roofing, ceramic tile, masonry, fire extinguishers, glass cutting, floors, fan coil or gas heat, landscaping and building maintenance skills
  • Ability to perform all tasks associated with the duties specified
  • Ability to communicate in written and verbal form
  • Ability to lift 80 lbs. to the shoulder and carry it
  • Ability to cultivate a positive work culture; encourage and build positive relationships with all team members, customers, and vendors; act as agent of positive change
  • M-1: Minimum of 3 years primary work experience in apartment, hotel, construction or related field with Universal CSC license
  • M-2: Minimum of 2 years primary work experience in apartment, hotel, construction or related field
  • M-3: Minimum of 1year primary work experience in apartment, hotel, construction or related field
  • M-4: 0 to 1 year related experience and/or technical training or certification

Benefit eligibility is dependent on Team Member Status and benefits differ depending on whether your status is full-time (40 hrs/week), modified full-time (30-39 hrs/week), or part-time (1-29 hrs/week). All benefits are subject to cancellation and/or change at any time.
