Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with the design, development and implementation of Risk Reduction safety systems and related policies and procedures
  • Survey Asbestos, Lead Paint, Mold, Radio Frequency, and other operational and occupational conditions; respond accordingly
  • Evaluation and selection of new equipment and the development of related procedures
  • Assist with the design, development, and delivery of safety training for Managers and Team Members
  • Knowledge of existing and new legislation, anticipate future legislation and interpret standards
  • Support adherence to regulations and recommend corrective actions to management
  • When necessary coordinate, cooperate, and participate with local, state and regional safety groups and regulatory organizations
  • Assist with the collection and delivery of data at legal hearings and coordinate actions with claims
  • Maintain a safety and environmental database (Jenark driver) for Asbestos, Lead Paint, Mold, Ratio Frequency, and other environmental matters.
  • Assist with the completion of all operational requirements regarding OSHA and environmental safety
  • Assist with the organization, recruitment, selection and training of Team Members to participate in safety functions (i.e. shop organization, DOT drivers, Safety Representatives, Radio Frequency training)
  • Collect and as necessary report data regarding the community, Safety Representative and team training participation
  • Assist with the development, implementation, coordination, and maintenance of DOT activities and documentation, including vehicle inspection reports, annual training, medical evaluations and certifications
  • Assist with the development, implementation, coordination, and maintenance of a respiratory program, including respirator and filter selection, annual training, fit-testing and medical surveillance documentation.
  • Provide licensed safety and environmental contracting services and oversight when requested
  • Assist with the outreach and establishment of a safety vendor list and review annually
  • Maintain professional and technical work knowledge by attending educational workshops, review professional publications, establish personal networks and participate in professional organizations
  • Contribute to the Human Resources Team by accomplishing tasks and assisting with projects as necessary
  • Assist with the development of training materials and delivery of “Train the Trainer” programs for Safety Representatives regarding Team Safety and Environmental Awareness
  • Assist with the development and delivery of quarterly OSHA Committee meetings
  • Report and revise Safety and Environmental Processes and Procedures as necessary
  • Comply with all Southern Management’s policies and procedures
  • Perform various other duties as assigned by Manager and/or Director

Skills Required

  • Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of team members and management
  • Ability to identify safety and environmental related concerns and recommend solutions and response actions
  • Effective communication with SMC Directors, Property Managers and Team Members by providing feedback, support and information regarding safety and environmental performance, asbestos, lead paint, mold, radio frequency, refrigerant use, and other policies, procedures or legal matters
  • Ability to communicate concerns regarding corrective actions in an effective, positive and progressive manner

  • Meet established deadlines
