About the Job

Work with the VP, Product Development, Product Development Team, and cross functional teams to ideate and develop high quality products that meet brand strategy, timelines and cost objectives for Global Complexion initiatives.

About Your Responsibilities

  • Initiate, track and execute all stages of product development for Global Complexion products including Primers (makeup/skin care hybrids,) Complexion (Foundation, Concealers) and Mascara
  • Work directly with Estee Lauder Corporate R&D, International ELC Teams, and Third Party Manufacturers on new launches
  • Work with Marketing, R&D, GSR, GBSC, Packaging, Sales and Creative to ensure all products are launched on time
  • Work with PD and Marketing to ideate new innovative Complexion products for Smashbox including brainstorming, understanding the competitive market, and trend identification for forms, textures, finishes, raw materials. Competitive shopping will be required
  • Compose a Product Brief for each new product detailing the product concept, raw materials, features and benefits, performance attributes, ingredient requirements, cost targets, shade range, sensory and clinical testing
  • Communicate product concepts and shade direction to appropriate laboratory. Review and re-direct submissions until desired attributes and performance is achieved
  • Lead the Product Test Panel, create questionnaires, request and provide samples, follow up on test results, review results, and issue final report to ensure all formulas meet the standards of the brand
  • Manage the product claims, safety, sensory and claims testing, and bulk requirements through the internal ELC labs
  • Work with the Corporate Fragrance lab on formulas that contain fragrance
  • Evaluate all product submissions and establish standards from lab through first production
  • Evaluate reformulations and update production standards per ELC requirements
  • Strong Complexion shade matching skills required
  • Travel required to R&D (Melville, Canada, Belgium) and outside 3rd party vendors (US and International) development of new product concepts and calendared formula development for on site development and formula production approvals
  • Attend internal meetings including, Concept, Calendar, PD, R&D, Claims, PPD, Complexion Review, Copy, and external supplier meeting
  • Work with internal ELC labs to identify and develop new/innovative formulas
  • Attend trade shows and seminars to source new/innovative formulas.
  • Approve primary and secondary artwork and on line assets for color descriptions, product shots, model shots and product listing
  • Manage the concept input into the internal Marketing Portal
  • Distribute all final Product Briefs and Shade Lineups to cross functional teams
  • Track key trends, the competitive environment and participate in brainstorming meetings for new product concepts
  • Provide key product information to Training, Global Communications and Marketing including Product Profiles, Product Usage Statements and Product Descriptions for copy
  • Help coordinate samples for meetings, photography, etc. and evaluate/organize 1st Production Finished goods
  • Purchase and evaluate competitive products and participate in presenting information
  • Coordinate distribution of approved standards to Marketing, Packaging and Creative
  • Evaluate Competitive NPD and report back with comprehensive analysis.
  • Manage and develop junior PD team members
  • Manage the PD budget, SAP Approvals and on-going interdepartmental process needs
  • Partnership, team work and a positive "Make It Happen attitude are imperative


About You

  • 8+ years of relevant work experience
  • Frequent Travel Necessary
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
