Cloud Engineer - AWS

Smartronix Inc., a Premier Amazon Web Services Consulting Partner, a Gold Microsoft partner and a Google Cloud Platform Premier Partner is seeking a driven and talented AWS Cloud Engineer to join our thriving Cloud Services business unit and work with some of the best Cloud Architects and Cloud Engineers in the market. This individual will bring a passion for technology, a strong technical AWS engineering skill set, and an ability to deploy and configure Production-ready solutions, services and tools for the Federal Government.
The ideal AWS Cloud Engineer is a very hands-on individual. They will assist other team members in the development and deployment of environments and AWS-related services for our customers. They will have opportunities to be involved at all stages of a project - covering requirements capture and assessment, cloud services deployment, security and compliance, systems engineering and operational readiness. They will bring not only knowledge of core AWS services and APIs, but experience performing systems engineering tasks as part of a project team. #CJPOST
Core Responsibilities:

  • Work within a delivery-centric professional services team
  • Interact directly with Smartronix clients
  • Clearly and effectively work with other team members, management and with customers
  • Engage with the client through discovery, analysis and planning activities
  • Work with code lifecycle tools and processes
  • Support Production readiness activities
  • Provide transparent and regular status updates to Project and Account Management team members
  • Produce clean, high-quality technical documentation
  • Perform various software installations and configurations (e.g.: SQL Server, Active Directory)
  • Schedule and perform COTS software upgrades
  • Identify system or performance issues, and develop resolutions
  • Draft or contribute to architecture diagrams and data flow mappings
  • Write, or contribute to, operational runbooks for long-term environment support
  • Participate in operational readiness activities
  • Achieve and maintain related AWS certification levels


Required Skills Required Skills:
  • Experience working in a customer-facing capacity as part of an integrated project team
  • Hands-on experience deploying, configuring, automating and testing AWS solutions
  • Hands-on experience using AWS APIs or CLI
  • Working knowledge of cloud security controls and supporting configurations
  • Hands-on, day to day experience with Window and UNIX/Linux system administration
  • Light experience with VPN deployments and/or administration of related networking appliance
  • Ability to handle COTS product installations, configurations and upgrades, with application owners, Project Lead and Project Manager
  • Ability to create well-written documentation and procedures
  • Hands-on experience developing CloudFormation templates or Terraform code highly preferred
  • Hands-on scripting experience - e.g.: Python, Perl, BASH, PowerShell highly preferred
  • Working knowledge of NIST and FedRAMP compliance guidelines


Required Experience Required:
  • 4 year related information technology degree
  • Additional 4 years of related job experience can be substituted in lieu of degree
  • Ability to obtain a public trust required
Work location:
Herndon, VA and Downtown DC as needed for meetings (25-50%)
