Engineer - Web App Quality

Slack is looking for experienced and skilled Quality Engineers to join our team. This is an excellent position for people who enjoy working on the full cycle of manual testing — crafting a strategy, writing a plan, crafting and executing tests, finding regressions, logging and verifying bugs, and creating comprehensive historical records of testing activities are all part of being successful in this position.

Product development at Slack is split into small teams of engineers, designers, and product managers building features together. As a Quality Engineer at Slack, you would become a full-time member of one of these small teams, focusing on just one or two projects at a time to ensure that we have a solid and well-executed test strategy before launching new features to the public.

Responsibilities

  • Cooperate with engineering, design, product management, project management, and customer experience to build, own, and deliver on test plans for new features and functionality
  • Develop and maintain a robust library of test cases for both new and existing features
  • Design and execute regression tests on an ongoing basis — Slack changes frequently and rapidly
  • Provide immediate feedback to developers on new functionality and feature changes
  • Ally with Engineering to isolate and reproduce defects across all parts of the system
  • Collaborate with Customer Experience team to improve the quality of feature releases and provide continuous support
  • Be responsible for issues your area of the code, triage and log the issues in our bug tracking tool
  • Work with the Automation Test engineers to identify and address gaps in testing coverage
  • Become the voice of Quality for the product

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years web application testing
  • Experience debugging with Chrome Developer Tools / Firebug
  • Knowledge of Jira or similar Bug Tracker and Project Management tools
  • Organizational skills to capture and record detailed and accurate information about bugs and systemic issues
  • Ability to see patterns, commonalities and investigate complex issues
  • Creative thinking and approaching the Slack client from multiple users’ perspectives
  • Improvisation and flexibility
  • Being a reliable, friendly, and non-judgemental
  • This is a communication heavy role. You must be fluent in both spoken and written English
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field, or equivalent training, fellowship, or work experience

Nice to haves

  • Knowledge of accessibility standards, testing and assistive technologies
  • Familiarity with Jenkins and GitHub
  • Experience with A/B testing
