WJAR-TV has an exciting opportunity for a full time Traffic Anchor / Reporter for our morning newscasts. The ideal candidate will be able to know or learn Rhode Island and Massachusetts highways, monitor traffic information networks and social media for delays, and operate a traffic computer to create and display graphics. The traffic anchor will deliver multiple traffic reports from a chroma key during our 4:30am - 7am morning newscasts. The remainder of this weekday shift would focus on general assignment reporting for the noon or evening newscasts. We are looking for a strong writer, someone with sharp wit and the ability to work well with others. In this role, you will be required to produce daily content on a variety of platforms including the internet and social networks, along with performing other duties as assigned by the news managers.

Skills:

  • A self-starter and who can generate his or her own story ideas on a daily basis
  • Able to demonstrate enterprise reporting and creativity in story-telling
  • Exemplary communication skills and previous experience working in a team environment are a must
  • Ability to work under deadline and on a flexible schedule that will include evenings and/or weekends is required

Requirements:

  • Strong on-air presentation skills are a must
  • 2+ years experience as a news reporter and/or anchor preferred
  • Background as a traffic reporter or weather anchor is ideal
  • Proven knowledge and experience working with current media creation tools and contemporary newsroom system
  • Must be able to work well under deadline pressure
  • Considerable live shot and/or anchoring experience
