Position Summary:

The R&D Manager, will lead the Mechanical Engineering team in the new product development life cycle. You will provide technical and project leadership using a hands-on approach. You are highly proficient with current development tools, practices, and processes and experienced in design and development of complex and precision systems. You are highly experienced in traditional mechanical design, mechanisms, complex analysis & simulations, design for manufacturing and assembly, and materials. Ideal candidates have designed, implemented, and launched complex mechanical systems comprised of driven precision parts and assemblies for a medical robotics technology platform. This is a collaborative opportunity where the individual will work with other engineering disciplines, product management, quality assurance, and manufacturing.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Lead, develop, and manage mechanical engineering team, provide technical guidance, evaluation, and facilitate career growth
  • Responsible for planning, design, development, prototyping, and testing of complex mechanical or electro-mechanical systems

• Lead the technical design and development team in multi-disciplinary projects
• Oversee and apply strong analytical and problem-solving methodologies including modeling and simulations aimed at guaranteed-by-design implementation
• Lead best practice implementation in design methodologies, development processes and tools to ensure high quality and reliable products within time and budget
  • Lead the definition of design inputs, creating design descriptions and specifications, authoring testing protocols, conduct and/or oversee testing, and issue resolution

• Project management responsibilities, which may include internal or external resources, developing and maintaining project schedules and budgets

Qualifications:
  • MSc. degree in mechanical engineering required, PhD. Preferred.
  • 10+ yrs experience in the product development role, with at least five years in medical device development, or other regulated industries, required
  • 3+ years of direct people management experience in product development required
  • 5+ years project management experience involving internal and external resources required
  • Strong analytical skills in mechanical domain (such as statics, dynamics, kinematics, vibration) required
  • Experience in the analysis, design, and development of robotic systems highly desired
  • Proficiency with the latest mechanical CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks) and the simulation tools required. Experience with electrical CAD tools (e.g., 2D & 3D SolidWorks electrical) desired
  • Proficiency in domain and tools such as: FEA, MATLAB, Simulink/Simscape, LabVIEW, Minitab, and reliability analysis required
  • Strong communication and leadership skills required
  • Ability to travel up to 10% required
