Manager of Financial Reporting

Shopify is a fast-growing commerce company currently powering over 500,000 stores in more than 175 different countries. Merchants use our software to power their business across multiple sales channels, including web, tablet and mobile storefronts, through social media and marketplaces, and in their brick-and-mortar and pop-up shops. As Shopify continues to expand globally and the volume of our transactions increases, we’re looking to hire a Manager of Financial Reporting who combines a passion for analysis with strong technical skills.

You’ll need to have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Finance, or Accounting
  • Minimum 6 years accounting experience and a CA or CPA/CA designation
  • Public accounting firm experience
  • A passion for technical accounting and proven experience writing or reviewing position papers
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to exercise good judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analysis
  • Experience using Excel at an advanced level, with motivation to improve
  • A proven attention to detail and an ability to work independently
  • An ability to prioritize your workload and a flexible/adaptable nature that will thrive in Shopify's fast paced environment
  • Experience managing junior staff

It’ll be great if you have experience in:

  • Working in a financial reporting role at a publicly listed company
  • Knowledge of the SaaS industry and relevant metrics
  • Excellent knowledge of US GAAP and SEC rules and regulations
  • Getting shit done with quality

You will be working on things like:

  • Preparing the Quarterly and Annual Financial Statements and MD&A and managing the internal and external review/audit for these documents
  • Contributing to the preparation of quarterly earnings releases
  • Preparing the monthly Executive and Board of Directors package
  • Monitoring and ensuring timely identification and compliance with new accounting pronouncements
  • Providing US GAAP interpretation and preparing technical position papers
  • Communicating and explaining accounting issues and evolving accounting guidance to the management team
  • Managing and completing various aspects of the month, quarter and year-end close processes
  • Other project-based work including, but not limited to design and development of internal financial systems, and drafting an internal policy for revenue accounting to meet new the revenue recognition standard, ASC 606
