What's the role?
Shell Pipeline is currently seeking to fill an Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E) Technician vacancy in the Gulf of America (Delta) which includes Empire, Nairn, Barataria & Alliance area working a 4/10 schedule.
The I&E Technician is an independent member of the craft technician team tasked with equipment maintenance, calibration, and record-keeping for measurement/instrumentation and electrical equipment, in compliance with all applicable internal requirements and external regulations.
What you'll be doing
Duties will include but are not limited to:
- Schedule, execute, and document regulatory inspections, preventive maintenance, and reactive/breakdown maintenance on a wide range of instrumentation and electrical equipment in accordance with the SPLC Electrical Inspection & Maintenance manual and manufacturer's specifications.
- Identify specific process improvement needs and provides recommendations for system upgrades and streamlining.
- Assess other customer needs daily to assure all instrumentation and equipment is safe and reliable for operation and maintained per approved R&I plans and that appropriate resources are available to meet customer needs.
- Install, inspect, troubleshoot, calibrate, and repair instruments and electrical equipment at sites that may include pipeline pump stations, tank farms, terminals, dock facilities, and/or delivery sites. Specific equipment will vary with assets at the locations covered; examples include motors, motor operated valves, control valves, dead weight testers, electrical systems, 13.8 KV AC switch gear, 4160 AC Switchgear, 480V AC switchgear down to 24 Volt DC instrumentation, tank gauge system, PLC, communication equipment, motor controls, SCADA equipment, sampling equipment, fire and gas detection systems, generators, transformers, etc.
- The role requires the ability to communicate well at all levels in the organization, manage external relationships with contractors and customers, and strong process discipline.
- Perform all work in a safe manner in adherence with Goal Zero.
- Follow the PME maintenance execution process (ME). Use SAP Preventative Maintenance (PM) notifications and work orders to manage work processes to ensure all instrumentation and electrical equipment is maintained per scheduled maintenance plans in a timely manner.
- Follow Process Control Domain (PCD) processes.
- Manage work orders in SAP to meet maintenance requirements and reactive maintenance requests.
- Own and organize assigned jobs through determining material and equipment needed, scheduling downtime, and arranging for outside contractors and special items needed.
- Interpret and understand equipment, station, and protective and control devices (P&CD) drawings; use knowledge to serve as expert on the equipment parameters, flow rates, pressure ratings, etc.
- Oversee third parties to ensure safe operations and adherence to regulations and manufacturer specifications.
- Respond to abnormal operation conditions.
- Work closely with technical support staff, engineering staff, operations staff, and other stakeholders to maintain system reliability and availability.
- Complete and stay in compliance with required Federal, State, and Local regulations; Operator Qualification; HSSE training and standards; and other required applicable regulations (e.g. Hazmat, RCRA, etc.).
- Actively support and participate in processes, audits, inspections, and other company sponsored initiatives
- Monitor equipment performance trends to identify potential reliability and/or equipment issues that could impact Operations; develop recommendations to address. Follow practices and procedures to support continuous improvement of maintenance programs and tasks.
- Support Management of Change (MOC) process and procedures.
- Duties will vary based on product, location, and on/offshore.
- This position will require some travel to cover work in other areas as needed. Defensive Driving class will be required.
- This successful candidate will be responsible for measurement/Instrumentation, analyzers, and electrical equipment maintenance, repair/troubleshooting, calibration, loss/gain analysis, problem-solving, and meticulous record-keeping.
- This position is considered an "individual contributor" position; however, there are situations where it is necessary to work with other personnel and customers in order to successfully complete tasks and responsibilities. Individual will work with Shell Project Teams on specific initiatives. Additionally, much of the work is self-driven; teamwork is a must within this group. This position is part of a team supporting the pipelines, stations, and other pipeline facilities within the assigned geographical area.
- Ability to be flexible across assets (other Disciplines: I&E, Ops, Mechanical, ROW). Willingness to become multiskilled - Cross Functional (Mechanical/Operator Help/Helper) Individual will work with Shell Project Teams on specific initiatives.
- This position will require a Fitness to Work physical for remote locations.

Special Challenges:
- This position covers a large area and wide range of equipment.
- This position requires up front planning to execute tasks timely and safely.
- An individual is expected to meet the level of proficient in both Measurement/Instrumentation and Electrical disciplines within a reasonable period, which will vary based on previous experience and specific equipment covered.
- Individual should be able to demonstrate and take initiative in developing skills to enhance skills. This position performs in a remote location with limited support staff.
- A successful candidate will thrive in a demanding environment performing a variety of roles and duties. In addition, there could be work in confined spaces and potentially at heights above 6 feet.
- Daily activities may include moderate lifting, bending, sitting, kneeling, squatting, standing, walking on uneven ground, climbing, twisting, pulling and pushing.
- Report to work whenever requested and work extended hours if required.
- Work outdoors for extended periods of time, sometimes in adverse weather conditions in summer and winter.
- Be available / on-call for reactive work when requested and emergency response.
- Live within a reasonable response time from the primary location (Nairn Station).
- Be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays when necessary.
- Be available for on call rotation with other team members.
What we need from you
- The candidate must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis
- Require high school diploma or equivalent; strongly prefer a technical degree and/or 2 or more years of relevant experience.
- Prior liquid or gas measurement experience, and/or electrical/instrumentation systems installation and maintenance experience is required.
- Individual must be a licensed driver, able to obtain/hold a valid TWIC card, and maintain qualification to enter customer facilities. Must be able to obtain a HAZWOPER/OPA First Responder Certificate. Must be able to pass a driver's license background certification from fleet services and maintain driving privileges if assigned a company vehicle.
- Must be able to pass electrical training as required for the role, which could include NFPA70E, NEC, and OSHA1910.269.
- Proficient at working within the Maintenance Execution process and SAP software.
- Proficient at working on a computer, using standard operating programs, and entering information into systems.
- Monitor own development needs and work with Supervisor to address improvements and training.
- Adept at managing important internal and external relationships, including key contacts with the Houston Control Center, external customers, and regulators.
- Experience working in an environment which requires multi-tasking and the continuous re-prioritization of work tasks due to the demand of keeping systems operational.
- Required to live within a reasonable response time from the primary work location (Nairn Station).
- Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills required to work well and influence others internal and external to the company.
- Job requires a highly motivated leader who can independently recognize and mitigate hazards, has the discipline to work and drive safely every day, is ready to be a proactive, vocal team player within a small work group with a strong safety culture, and committed to continuous improvement.
Preference for:
- Strong preference for individuals with experience programming and troubleshooting control systems.

- Experience performing maintenance and/or operations of crude oil, finished products, and chemical on a pipeline/terminal asset
- Experience performing maintenance of geographically dispersed assets.
- Proven project execution experience
- Strong understanding of station PLC logic and instrument protective functions on pipeline systems

- Experience in cost and budget management
- Ability to navigate and query reports in SAP, SOU, and other software

What we offer
The base salary range for this position is $84,000 - $126,000 per year. Individual pay will be based on various factors such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity.
For regular full-time or regular part-time employees of the Company (participating companies as listed in the Summary Plan Description), insurance coverage options include medical, dental, vision coverage, life Insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs. Employees also participate in a company pension plan and a 401(k) plan. Paid leave includes up to 6 weeks of paid vacation time, up to 11 paid holidays, and parental leave offering 16 weeks of paid leave for birthing parents, and 8 weeks of paid leave for non-birthing parents.
Additionally, employees are eligible for short-term disability leave for up to 26 weeks at 100% or 50% of base pay as well as Long-Term Disability insurance. Shell also offers other compensation such financial reimbursement for adoption, wellness, education, and personal learning expenses, and some roles are eligible for discretionary long-term incentives. For interns, eligible benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs; participation in a 401(k) plan; and paid leave for up to 11 paid holidays.
