Director of Financial Reporting/Tech Accounting

Founded in 2009, SendGrid is an industry-disrupting, cloud-based customer communication platform that solves the challenges of reliably delivering emails on behalf of our customers.  We deliver over 30 billion emails a month for customers like Airbnb, Spotify, and Uber.

Based in Denver and reporting directly to the VP, Corporate Controller, the Director of Technical Accounting and Financial Reporting will be joining SendGrid at critical stage of the company’s growth.  This is a newly created role and will be responsible for all aspects of technical accounting and financial reporting processes.

Provide technical accounting guidance and disclosure requirements based on US GAAP and SEC regulations for significant business transactions and material contracts

  • Research and keep current with accounting standards especially as they relate to disclosure requirements, including documenting and implementing new practices as necessary

  • Document and roll out technical accounting policies. Maintain policies log

  • Coordinate with the external auditors on the quarterly review and year-end audit in connection with technical accounting matters

  • Lead technical accounting related to business combination (ASC 805)

  • Responsible for stock compensation and equity accounting (ASC 718), including stock-based compensation, expense calculation and assumption evaluation

  • Manage the process of drafting monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements ensuring integrity, accuracy and completeness of disclosures and supporting documents including disclosure checklists

  • Prepare footnotes to the financial statements and other required reporting disclosures (MD&A, Business Overview etc.); maintain sufficient detailed support

  • Coordinate, collect and manage feedback from management, legal, external auditors, tax, audit committee and other cross-functional teams to ensure timely and accurate SEC filings

  • Oversee accounting, financial reporting and statutory reporting requirements for foreign entities

  • Assist in the Formulate internal controls over financial reporting and policies ensuring Sarbanes-Oxley 404 compliance to conform to established best practices

  • About You

    • Self-starter, with a high energy level, able to solve both process and technical problems and work effectively in a cross functional, team orientated environment

    • Focused, organized and detail-oriented with strong decision-making skills in an environment that demands rapid decision making

    • 15+ years of experience in a combination of public accounting and industry

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Master’s degree preferred

    • CPA required

    • Desire, interest, and proficiency in researching technical accounting matters.

    • Excellent interpersonal skills required

    • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to clearly and effectively present technical accounting matters and summarizing with the appropriate level of detail and clarity for communication to the team

    • Able to analyze complex problems and develop/implement logical and innovative solutions

    • Able to lead projects through clear communication, coordination and prioritization in a time sensitive environment

    • Strategic - Provide proactive, meaningful insight & identification of long-term or overall aims and interests and the means of achieving them. Clear and directly face the strengths and weaknesses, as well as external opportunities and threats
