Vice Chair, Institutional Review Board
Provide the highest possible support and leadership to Seattle Children’s ethical review and research safety programs in areas and issues requiring medical training and judgment. This most commonly involves the Institutional Review Board (IRB), but may involve areas such as biosafety, data safety, compliance, quality assurance, and others. Assists the IRB chair in leading convened IRB meetings, and conducts meetings in the absence of the IRB chair. Ensures that meetings are conducted according to all applicable federal, state, and institutional regulations and guidelines and policies. Conducts, when applicable, expedited review of study submissions, continuing review, amendments and other study-related IRB submissions. Participates with IRB chair and Director of Institutional Assurances in formulation of IRB policies and guidance. Conducts training and continuing education for IRB members, research staff, investigators and other parties regarding research with human subjects.
- Advanced degree in a scientific field (MD or DO preferred, or PhD)
- Six or more years related experience and/or training, with prior experience in medical research; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Knowledge of regulations, guidelines, policies, and ethical issues governing research with human subjects and use of investigational drugs/devices/biologics
- Experience in Social Behavioral Sciences or Genetics
- Pediatric experience
