Animal Technician I

Conduct laboratory animal care and associated support duties under close supervision according to standards set forth by the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals (the Guide) to maintain full accreditation status with the Association for Assessment & Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care International (AAALAC). This position will have a focus on cage wash and provides basic cage wash duties including the processing of all caging material through mechanical rack and tunnel washers; oversees cage staging and autoclaving of all caging material and related equipment. Maintains schedules of cage wash equipment to ensure that adequate caging equipment is appropriately sanitized and according to all departmental Standard Operating Procedures. Monitors the operation levels of all cage wash equipment. Trouble shoots equipment failures or decreased productivity of equipment and reports all issues to the Animal Facility Supervisor immediately. Maintains logs for temperature tapes and autoclaves assurance indicators. Oversees the arrival of all supply inventory to include deliveries of personal protective supplies, chemicals, feed and bedding and animal shipments as well as all other inventory. Ensures that all materials are properly decontaminated prior to entering the facility. Maintains the ventilated rack master schedule and logs to ensure proper sanitization basic cage wash duties including the processing of all caging material through mechanical rack and tunnel washers; oversees cage staging and autoclaving of all caging material and related equipment.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Some laboratory/animal husbandry experience with mice and rats
- Experience operating cage washers and autoclaves.
