Newsroom Reporter – breaking news team

The San Francisco Chronicle has an opening for a breaking news reporter. We’re looking for someone who is fast at spotting stories and faster at reporting and writing them. We need a reporter who will hustle, be aggressive and never settle for being second on a story. Versatility is important in this job. This reporter will cover murders, fires, trials, floods and features – often in the same week. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a robust social media presence and an ability to enhance stories through video and savvy use of platforms such as Twitter and Facebook. This is an entry-level, two-year job, perfect for a recent graduate who is eager to demonstrate the ability to thrive in a big-city news environment and grow into a strong candidate for a full-fledged staff writer position.


  • Handle breaking news for and, and advance/repurpose breaking stories for and print.


  • BA in journalism or related field
  • Demonstrated experience at covering breaking news.
