Editorial Writer

The Chronicle is looking for an editorial writer with a knack for identifying and delivering high-impact pieces of interest to the San Francisco Bay Area. Our editorial page puts a premium on original reporting and independent thinking. The successful applicant will be have demonstrated exceptional reporting and writing skills, and an ability to analyze and explain complex policy in clear and compelling ways. Regular writing duties will mostly involve unsigned editorials – reflecting the editorial board’s consensus position – though there may be occasional opportunities to write a column or bylined essay. The editorial writer’s proficiency in social media and multimedia presentation will enable him or her to play a vital role in suggesting and executing innovations to elevate The Chronicle’s profile and accelerate its transformation to a digital-first environment. The writer will be a member of the Chronicle Editorial Board, and will be expected to keep up with issues and contribute substantive input into endorsement decisions and other editorial positions.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • A bachelor’s degree.
  • A portfolio that includes examples of strong writing and multimedia skills.
  • Established ability to work collaboratively, and to perform effectively under deadline pressure.
  • Knowledge of the Bay Area is a plus.
