POSITION SUMMARY:
The Naval Architect will provide technical support within the New Building organization for Royal Caribbean Group naval architecture and special technical projects, including those pertinent to specific ships and fleet-wide initiatives. Efforts shall be in accordance with established systems and procedures.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supports sustainability initiatives, with focus on emissions reduction, to achieve corporate-wide objectives and drive fulfilment of ship specific projects.
- Creates or reviews specifications, measurements, and calculations relevant to ship design and sustainability initiatives. Verifies, checks, and comments as necessary.
- Supports newbuild energy efficiency efforts including analysis of fleet and ship specific performance.
- Collaborates with partners, within and outside the company, from multiple disciplines to drive fulfilment of projects or industry-wide initiatives including technical and non-technical scope.
- Studies and recommends technology, process, and design solutions for various projects.
- Prepares technical specifications with drawings and appendixes and may facilitate drawings through the approval cycle.
- Generates and maintains documentation necessary to the design process.
- Makes changes, updates, and modifications as necessary to the design process.
- Performs design, documentation, analysis, and modelling tasks using appropriate software packages.
- Applies knowledge of relevant International and Flag State regulations regarding design of passenger ships and technology consideration for onboard application.
- Performs operational support and/or analysis for an assigned area.
- Develops and prepares reports and records relating to assignments or projects.
- Supports departmental procedures to ensure effective coordination between departments and the ships.
- Participates in the development of specifications, policies and procedures for assigned areas.
- Supports risk management process for new technologies, defines processes on how to identify risks properly at early stages of projects.
- Performs feasibility studies for different field of technologies as needed.
- Participates with the division management which may include the Vice President, Director and/or Manager, in fulfilling initiatives, goals and objectives which support New Buildings through company policies and procedures.
- Utilizes computer resources to generate a variety of reports and communications.
- Attends industry specific trade shows and training as needed.

KEY SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Proficiency in MS Outlook, Excel, Word, Powerpoint , and Project or equivalent.
- Working knowledge of various computer aided design programs and analysis programs. Good skills to analyze and develop specifications. Drawings, layouts and other technical documentation.
- Understanding of shipbuilding project and programming processes.
- Basic knowledge of SOLAS, MARPOL, IMO, classification rules and marine standards.
- Fluency in English, other languages as advantage.
- Excellent teamwork skills.
- Good skills for communication and co-operation in multicultural working environment.
- Willingness to travel domestic and international.
QUALIFICATIONS:
M. Sc. Naval Architect or equal with minimum 3 years of experience in the field of naval architecture preferably in the cruise ship industry.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing job functions the employee is regularly required to sit, and stand, write, review and type reports, compile data, operate a pc, communicate, listen, and assess information. The employee may move about the office complex, may travel to other office locations and may lift, push, pull or move 10-15 pounds. The employee is occasionally required to walk to the dock, ascend and descend the vessel within a construction site environment. This position may regularly travel domestically or internationally. Visual requirements include distant, close and color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The environment includes work inside/outside the office, travel to other offices, as well as domestic, international, and shipboard travel. A high noise level is possible if visiting shipboard or offsite locations
