The Project Engineer III - Controls is responsible for planning, implementing/executing, and documenting control systems for Rheem Commercial and Package products. As a member of the Commercial Engineering team, the candidate will work to identify, qualify, implement, and extend a common controls platform strategy across Rheem's Packaged and Commercial systems. These activities will provide advanced technologies and systems solutions for Rheem's Commercial and Package Air Conditioning business unit from concept through production and on field applications and customer support.

This position will serve our Air Conditioning Division, based in Fort Smith, Arkansas. This position is hybrid and will require roughly 50% in-office work out of Fort Smith offices. Flexibility provided for residents in the Northwest Arkansas area.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
- Will work on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Lead and actively support new product development by creating and modifying control systems for commercial and packaged product.
- Lead efforts to develop standardized control systems, components and strategies involved in the control systems utilized on commercial and packaged equipment including roof top packaged units, residential packaged units and large commercial split systems.
- Work closely with vendors in order to successfully develop new technologies, components and products through active collaboration, specification, review, testing, evaluation, and analysis.
- Active engagement with software, hardware, test, and product development teams over the entire product life cycle to ensure that electrical control system are planned, documented, and completed.
- Document / Define / Update / Maintain system schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Document / Define / Update / Maintain control system architecture including key functional blocks, inputs, outputs, and interfaces.
- Lead investigations and troubleshooting product design related problems and opportunities, documenting finds, and performing corrective/improvement changes.
- Develop wiring harnesses and documentation for assembly and testing in the factory. Support manufacturing engineering and suppliers by participating in the development of product test procedures and control documentation.
- Effectively be able to mentor and lead project engineers on a regular basis.
- Develop and follow processes from design to launch in the Product Development Process, specifically for commercial HVAC systems.
- Supervision of Coops and Interns as needed.
Qualifications:
WHAT YOU NEED:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering preferred or Mechanical Engineering with substantial electrical skillset.
- 5+ years of experience with design, testing and analysis of HVAC&R or similar systems.
- Experience with complex controls systems which include electro-mechanical, electrical and electronic components.
- Experience with electrical and electronic components failure analysis
- Demonstrated ability in working on product development teams and cross-functional teams.
- Demonstrated ability in designing experiments, interpreting experimental data, conducting analysis, drawing conclusions and preparing summary reports.
- Experience in analyzing, interpreting and utilizing technical procedures and government/agency regulations (e.g. NEC, UL, CSA, CE, FCC among others).
- Knowledge of UL and other safety standards and testing requirements needed to certify commercial HVAC or similar equipment.
- Knowledge of NEC and other electrical code requirements needed to certify commercial HVAC or similar equipment.
- Expert level knowledge utilizing Microsoft Excel
- Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new systems and computer programs
HOW TO STAND OUT:
- Master's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience qualifying and applying common components utilized in commercial HVAC&R or similar equipment such as compressors, fractional and integral HP motors, electronic controls, contractors and relays.
- Understanding of system SCCR (Short-Circuit Current Ratings)
- Experience with configure-to-order bill of material creation and maintenance
- Demonstrated proficiency with data analysis including statistical and uncertainty analysis
- Existing knowledge of HVAC technical procedures and regulations.
