Job Description

At Reverb, we build a broad range of content in order to appeal to musicians and music makers of all kinds: articles, buying guides, tutorials, mini-documentaries, and more! We're looking for an Editorial Intern with:
  • Strong writing and editing chops
  • Music gear knowledge
  • An enthusiasm to learn more about the musical instruments industry

Synthesizers, samplers, guitars, recording equipment... we cover a lot of different instruments and production methods. Don't know them all? That's OK! But you should know some really well and have a desire to learn about all the ways that music is made.

Reverb uses many content marketing channels to reach different audiences: our website, blog, YouTube channel, email newsletters, and social media platforms. We will give the Editorial Intern a taste of all of these channels and an opportunity to take part in every aspect of content creation. That includes: participating in brainstorm sessions, evaluating pitches, researching and writing articles, helping to script feature videos, building content newsletters, and more.

Throughout the internship, we will teach many skills and offer professional experiences that can be applied to marketing, journalism, or other content creation roles. These include:
  • How content ideas are refined, edited, laid out, and published
  • How individual projects align with an editorial calendar and larger company goals
  • How different forms of content can find and attract different audiences

The Intern will report to our Content Manager, on the Marketing Team. The role will be remote, working with a team on US central time. To apply, please submit a resume along with three writing samples (or two samples and one pitch) for us to review.

Gear- or music-related writing samples are preferred, but any samples that demonstrate an ability to discern information and communicate it to others will work. If preferred, applicants can submit one pitch instead of a third writing sample. In the pitch, tell us about an article you would like to write for Reverb News, how you would research or report it, and what its intended audience might be.

Please include these samples as an attachment with your resume.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the creation of Reverb content across various content channels: on our website, blog, social media, email newsletters, in videos, and more
  • Research and write new product release news, SEO-minded editorial content, and other articles
  • Help field pitches, refine ideas, and edit editorial features and buying guides
  • Participate in content team brainstorms and meetings
  • Identify and own one key content project

Qualifications

  • High school education or equivalent, current college students, or recent college graduates can apply
  • Experience in writing and/or editing for a publication (whether a high school or college newspaper or magazine, a personal blog, a previous internship, or professional freelance experience)
  • Knowledge of at least one kind of music gear, and a passion to understand the many ways artists, producers, and engineers make music
  • Being an active musician, music maker, and/or gear enthusiast is not required, but highly desired
  • A collaborative spirit that isn't afraid to share ideas and that can pull equal weight in group projects
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Experience with content management systems (CMS) and basic html, or an ability to learn quickly

Additional Information

This is a full-time, paid internship opportunity, which will run for 6 to 8 weeks in Summer 2021 (exact dates to be determined with the right applicant).
