As Senior Project Electronics Engineer you will lead and manage electronics development activities for multiple projects; taking projects from initiation to production release (from scoping and budgeting through development, test, and production release). 

 

In this role, you will also work closely with marketing and sales teams, and will initiate and develop ideas that will enhance and expand all Rain Bird product lines. Candidate must be a strong project leader and is expected to provide technical leadership and occasional supervision of engineers, technicians, and other support staff.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all aspects of robust electronic development for new, innovative product designs using embedded microprocessors (mostly ARM-Cortex 32-bit and some 8-bit micros such as Atmel AVR, Microchip PIC, etc)
  • Scope of responsibilities will cover reviewing customer requirements, creating technical specifications, cost-effective engineering designs, test plans, and design for manufacturability
  • Communicate clearly, verbally and in writing, to engineering management concerning project schedule, quality improvement and cost reduction opportunities, cost estimates, etc
  • Assure that product development priorities are completed to schedule and budget, while ensuring quality and product performance requirements are met
  • Collaborate with employees in other Rain Bird Design & Manufacturing facilities in US and Mexico
  • Product development activities include design and development, rigorous design reviews, incorporation of lessons learned from existing products, product verification and field validation along with coordinating with quality assurance and developing appropriate documentation
  • Responsible for keeping excellent organized project records and documentation
  • This position requires some traveling within the US and out of the country such as Mexico as needed

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS in Electrical, Electronic or Computer Engineering from an accredited university
  • Excellent English communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, and team leadership skills
  • 10+ years of electronic design engineering experience in a high-volume consumer product environment
  • Experience with wireless IoT (Internet of Things) devices and networks, RF circuitry & antennas, robust microprocessor-based design, analog-to-digital conversion, sensor principles, LCD (segmented and dot-matrix) displays, analog circuit design, battery powered circuits, and power supplies. Design experience in both wired and wireless network communication systems employing standard and/or proprietary protocols
  • Familiarity with all phases of printed circuit board design from schematic capture through board layout to board fabrication and board assembly. Experience in design and simulation of circuit board layouts for international EMC/EMI compliance and experience with high speed and high frequency circuit board layout techniques
  • Experience designing for electrically noisy environments with knowledge of ESD and power surge protection techniques. Familiarity with digital noise mitigation techniques and ability to address routing challenges associated with high pin density IC packages
  • Ability to define, document and implement end-to-end test plans for your electronic designs for both design validation as well as high-volume production test
  • High energy and enthusiastic attitude, willingness to learn customer requirements and troubleshoot field problems, desire for continued learning, and irrigation industry interest
  • History of increasing responsibilities with proven track record of achieving solid results
  • Evidence of innovative and creative thinking used to create effective solutions to both engineering and customer problems
  • Excellent laboratory skills; ability to prototype, test and validate designs using analog, digital and RF test and measurement tools; Excellent debugging and troubleshooting skills using basic lab tools and equipment, including high density surface mount circuit boards
  • Prior experience with Design for Manufacturability and Design for Testability
  • High attention to detail; excellent organization skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment
  • Experience specifying, sourcing and qualifying new electronic components and vendors for new designs

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MS or equivalent degree in engineering
  • Experience with embedded firmware development to do “board bring up” and hardware testing
  • Ability to perform debug of hardware/firmware issues to identify root cause
  • Analog/sensor interface design experience
  • Working knowledge of FMEA, DOE, SPC
  • Experience with regulatory compliances such as UL, IEC, IPC, RoHS, etc.
  • Expertise with Altium Designer a plus
  • Working knowledge of mechanical design and interactions with electronic component placement
  • Working knowledge of high-volume Printed Circuit Board Assembly production processes including mount, reflow, In-Circuit Test, In-System Programming and functional test
  • Experience with RF circuit design, stripline and embedded antennas
  • Experience with electronics potting, conformal coating, encapsulation
  • Experience in the irrigation industry
