Senior Software Engineer, Developer Tools


Quantcast has built one of the world’s most sophisticated data-intelligence platforms, processing upwards of 40 PB of data per day in our high-performance compute cluster. As a member of the Developer Tools team, you’ll use your software engineering skills to make our engineers more efficient, more productive, and generally happier at their jobs. Specific duties include designing and developing internal tools, automating application builds and deployments, and keeping our existing tools and services up and running.


Responsibilities

  • Work with our developers all around the world to determine what tools and services would help them be more efficient and productive
  • Build those tools
  • Work to understand the needs of our developers in order to serve them better
  • Contribute to the technical roadmap of the team
  • Design and promote best practices for creating, operating, and maintaining reliable services
  • Automate everything: configuration, deployments, metrics and monitoring, alerting and incident response, root cause analysis
  • Mentor junior team members to grow their careers and improve their skills, and assist in recruiting efforts
  • Perform design, architecture, and code reviews
  • Participate in a light on-call rotation 

Requirements

  • BS in computer science or equivalent experience
  • 3 years of industry experience in software development
  • Fluent in at least one scripting language (Python, Ruby, etc.)
  • Experience in compiled/OOP languages a plus
  • Strong software development skills (version control, code review, testing, release, monitoring, debugging)
  • Proven track record of operational excellence
  • Strong written communication and documentation skills
  • Proven ability to lead technical projects from conception to production
  • Comfort developing and operating in a linux environment
  • Operations and customer focus
