Operator III

The Operator III is under direction of the Lead or Senior Operators. The Operator III is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of information in and through all computer systems. This involves the running of system utilities and programs as well as printing, quality control, network monitoring and media distribution. Problems and Challenges The Data Center operations are critical to the competitive edge held by the company in its industry. The operator must work at peak efficiency to assure the smooth operation of this function within the company.


Manage and maintain printers, disk drives and tape drives. · Ensure that backups and restores are completed in a timely and efficient manner. · Ensure strict adherence to all Information Technology Department policies and procedures. · Ensure the timely and efficient processing of production requests through the computer systems. · Ensure that the distribution of output media is completed in an efficient and timely manner. · Ensure that off-site tape storage is maintained at the proper level and that backup media is properly labeled and rotated. · Maintain physical security of the computer room and the computer systems. · Maintain an adequate supply of forms and storage media. · The Operator III is prepared to run operations in the absence of direct supervision for the shift. · Recognize and identify potential areas where existing policies and procedures require change, or where new ones need to be developed, especially regarding future business expansion. · Strive to learn the job functions of the position immediately superior within the company, so that within twelve months promotion into this superior position is possible. Temporary promotion may be required due to extended illness or personal emergency; it is the responsibility of the Operator III to be prepared for temporary promotion at any time. · Fulfill departmental requirements in terms if providing administrative notification during periods of illness, vacation, or education. · Responsible for monitoring the Corporate Data Network and reporting problems to the Lead Operator. · Performs at or above company I.T. performance standards. Authority · Manage and ensure the backup/restore process · Has first-line responsibilities in production processing problems.


  • 1 to 2 years operations or other computer experience required
  • Undergraduate degree in Business Administration or Data Processing is preferred. Undergraduate course work in process is highly recommended.
