Assistant Store Manager (205W39NYC Store) - CALVIN KLEIN


The Assistant Store Manager is responsible for meeting the Company sales plan and promotes brand loyalty by conveying a mature and professional attitude. She/he manages the Accessories, Men's & Women's businesses on all levels to include financial, operations, merchandising, visual display, marketing, and the development of the staff. Has substantial knowledge of fashion trends, reads the fashion news on a daily basis and is informed about City events/exhibitions. She/he represents the Company and acts as a representative of the VP, Store Director. She/he needs to assist and complete all the tasks given to the VP, Store Director.



Responsible for the profitability of all the departments:

  • Achieve planned sales
  • Achieve the following components of the planned gross margin: shrinkage, merchandise transfer control
  • Recommend sales and marketing strategies to achieve/exceed sales goals
  • Prepare private sales and shopping events (including markdowns)
  • Communicate merchandise needs or opportunities to buying office
  • Knowledge of local competition
  • Store expenses (cost control)

Customer Service

  • Consistently ensure customers the number one priority
  • Demonstrate superior knowledge of the product and has ability to share the information with customers and employees
  • Personally manage delicate customers' issues
  • Assist Sales Consultants in suggesting additional merchandise
  • Makes sure the selling floor has proper coverage at all times
  • Coordinate the management of top clients and VIP's
  • Manage merchandise repairs
  • Manage damages and RTV's
  • Manage requests for merchandise transfers and charge-sends with branches and with buyers


Responsible for recruiting the best personnel available and constantly looking to elevate the overall level of the store staff:

  • Lead, manage and develop the sales team
  • Constant assessment of staffing needs
  • Implement all sales training initiatives
  • Work with Selling Managers on setting sales goals for their respective department and sales associates, and coach weekly and monthly to reinforce achievement
  • Monitor and assessment of performance
  • Write and administer performance appraisal process annually
  • Address performance issues & recognizes superior performance
  • Promoting and encouraging teamwork
  • Create and maintaining a healthy and productive work environment
  • Lead by example


Responsible for department operations:

  • Train and reinforce the staff on policies and procedures pertaining to sales and customer service
  • Ensure the store is maintained at the highest standards (ex. Lighting, windows, cleanness, repairs, safety issues, etc.)
  • Oversee and maintain the smooth functioning of all "back of house" activities, including: cashiers, shipping, receiving, special services
  • Knowledge of all systems, policies, and procedures
  • Knowledge of all reporting systems and interfaces
  • STS, payment process (invoices, receipts, etc.)


Responsible for:

  • Product knowledge of all merchandise categories
  • Selling performance by product category
  • Communication with merchandising staff of sales trending to plan and last year
  • Formal analysis of merchandising needs backed by actual sell through results

Visual Display

Responsible for the overall appearance of the store:

  • Ensure the image of the store is kept at Company standards (make sure the staff is aware of these standards)
  • Ensure the replacement or rotation of the product
  • Knowledge of Calvin Klein visual concepts and ability to follow direction given by visual
  • Working with the visual team on displays to maximize sales
  • Communicating with display and /or the merchandising staff with questions or problems pertaining to anything visual
  • Responsible for the proper maintenance of displays, fixtures, and housekeeping of store

Public Relations and Marketing

Responsible for assisting in the planning and execution of special events and store promotions:

  • Understand the current customer base and profile
  • Be proactive in planning growth of customer base
  • Knowledge of market including: important local charities, important tie-in events, and awareness of important people – social, government, and celebrities
  • Tracking and quantifying event results and advertising effectiveness
  • Grow the customer base by appropriate follow up to events and promotions
  • Must interact with corporate marketing and advertising personnel to maximize sales while working within agreed budget


  • Regular attendance and punctuality
  • Strong organizational skills. Multi-tasking and prioritizing capabilities
  • Flexibility with schedule and working hours
  • Ability to stand on your feet for the duration of your shift
  • Ability to lift, move and hang merchandise and other items
  • Ability to open and close a door


  • 5+ years retail/management experience
  • Must be sensitive in handling confidential information
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Flexible to deadline demands as well as handling various tasks
