The primary responsibility of the Machine Operator - Truss is to safely operate automated equipment that performs quality lumber cuts in the sequence required by production. The applicant should display a positive and proactive attitude, strong organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize. The ideal candidate will have the ability to utilize critical thinking skills to identify issues; work independently and as a team member and have the knowledge and understanding of lumber, lumber cuts, and manufacturing.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
- Performs daily operator checklist of machinery
- Executes lumber cutting timely and in the sequence required by production
- Sorts and organizes scrap material generated from machinery
- Effectively communicates mechanical breaks, errors, and downtime to production management and maintenance staff
- Safely and effectively operates computer-aided systems
- Adheres to PPE and safety requirements of the production facility
- Maintains consistent housekeeping of the work area
- Is on time with consistent attendance and operates through shift end
- Manages own time clock effectively
- Is a team player and takes direction from the production manager
- Is willing to do what it takes to get the job done safely and efficiently
- Proactive problem solver
- Follows instructions, willing to learn and train when required
- Consistently achieves high quality and volume targets of work area
REQUIRED EDUCATION
- All tools and equipment are to be used in accordance with manufacturers' recommendations
- Abides by safe lifting procedures
- Reads and interprets material and cuts list information
- Ensures quality parts and materials produced through machinery
- Navigates machinery interface effectively
- Troubleshoots machinery issues to identify the root cause and retain corrective action knowledge
- Supports all additional tasks directed by the production manager
- Learns and understands necessary computer programs to perform job-related tasks
- Professional behavior in the workplace with good communication skills
- Willingness to pursue training for trade knowledge advancement
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
- 2 years of machine operation or similar experience
- Ability to read, count and write
- Ability to lift and push 50 lbs
- Must be able to pass a drug screen and criminal background check
- Must be able to prove eligibility to work in the United States
- 40+ hours weekly including up to 2 Saturdays a month as scheduled
