Special Education Masters with Propel Teacher Residency Program

Propel Schools is seeking individuals who are ready to commit to a career in teaching Special Education. At Propel schools, we believe that educators must be passionate about equity and excellence to fulfill our mission of catalyzing the transformation of public education so that all children have access to high performing public schools. The Propel Teacher Residency Program (PTRP) is a fully funded Special Education teacher certification program that trains, supports, and certifies individuals so they can provide high-quality education for children. Propel offers both the Masters of Education program (42 credits for candidates who do not hold any teaching certification) and the Masters of Arts program (30 credits for candidates who already hold a teaching certification).

Program Overview:

In the first year of the program, each resident receives a generous $2,000 monthly stipend and full scholarship to Point Park University. Graduate level coursework begins in August 2021.

Residents work alongside a Propel educator during the week, receive individualized coaching support and professional development from the Residency Team, and have one day a week dedicated to Point Park coursework.

Years 2-4

After the first year, successful residents will be placed as a permanent Full-Time Educator (starting salary is $48,000, plus full benefits after the initial year of residency) within Propel Schools. Graduate coursework concludes in the Spring of 2023 and successful candidates obtain their PreK-12 Special Education Certification and graduate from the Master’s Program.

Propel Schools developed a rigorous full-time educator training initiative to tackle a critical challenge — recruiting, developing, and retaining quality educators. The Propel Teacher Residency Program prepares educators for culturally responsive teaching and meeting the instructional needs of all scholars. Successful participants finish the program as Pennsylvania certified Special Education educators with three years of teaching experience. Participants also gain the opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of scholars and communities impacted by poverty and race.

Propel Schools also recognizes that educators of color boost overall academic performance and help to close the achievement gap for scholars of color (80% of Propel scholars are minorities). Therefore, we strongly encourage persons of color to consider this opportunity and apply.

Propel is seeking hardworking, dedicated, and passionate individuals who are interested in earning their Special Education teaching certificate and Master\u0027s in Special Education to apply for the Propel Teacher Residency Program Special Education track.
