Accounting Assistant

The Accounting Assistant provides support to the Accounts Payable, Payroll, and General Ledger accounting functions at Propel Schools. Knowledge of governmental and non-profit accounting concepts, preferable. Must have working knowledge of basic accounting functions and be proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word.

Key Job Elements:

  • Enter Vendor Invoice detail into the accounting software
  • Match Invoices to open Purchase Orders and check for appropriate departmental approvals.
  • Maintain the Document Management system, which includes scanning vendor invoices, W-9’s and Contracts
  • Process semi-monthly accounts payable check runs and electronic fund transfers
  • Download and post financial data into journals and ledgers
  • Assist in reviewing employee timesheets and making adjustments prior to payroll processing
  • Run payroll reports and record Journal Entries into the general ledger
  • Perform general accounting tasks, such as account reconciliations, month-end closing procedures, and special projects as requested
  • Ability to enter data into various electronic systems while maintaining the integrity and accuracy of the data
  • Prioritize workload and perform in a fast-paced and challenging environment
  • Research and respond to internal and external accounting/financial questions and resolve issues.
  • Handle requests from auditors as required
  • Must be deadline focused, organized and exhibit problem-solving skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate at all levels of the organization

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelors in Accounting or business related field or 3-5 years’ experience in an accounting role
  • Experience with accounts payable
  • Experience with general ledger integrated accounting systems
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications including Excel
  • Detail oriented, highly organized, excellent prioritization skills

  • Experience in a PA public school setting a plus
  • Experience using Blackbaud Financial Edge general ledger and UltiPro payroll software a plus
