Senior Environment Artist

This person will join one of our new teams working on "core" games in the sci-fi or fantasy genres. We are looking for artists excited to bring AAA quality work and establish Pocket Gems as a leader in 3D art for mobile, creating games that appeal to a wide audience of players. We are excited to be shaping and defining games as we know it on mobile.

As a Senior Environment Artist you will use your seasoned abilities to drive the environment creation process on our upcoming hit mobile games. You will communicate closely with the Art Director and Concept artists to craft the environment vision of the project. You will help establish and maintain our pipelines, while also working with technical artists and engineers to establish new tools and features to increase the fidelity of our environments.  Your main responsibilities will be the hands on execution of the environment art, starting with early rough blocked-out models to executing the final textures and geometry.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Support the Art Director in the overall vision for the game while taking ownership on the environment zones and assets assigned
  • Synthesize concept art and block out models into final game environments

  • Conceptualize, design, and create game environments

  • Create environment textures from props to tiling terrain materials
  • Work collaboratively with the game designers and technical artists to understand and interpret design requirements with the engine’s technical limitations

  • Work with technical artists and engineers in the development of new tools and streamlining of processes

 

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience as an Environment Artist

  • Worked on multiple titles from start to finish

  • Understand basic lighting principles

  • Experience applying and using shaders

  • Understand technical limitations of game engines well, and can execute high-quality art within those limitations.

  • Effective asset creation and optimization

  • Avid gamer across multiple platforms/genres

  • Ability to communicate clearly and work effectively with others

  • Self-organized and self-motivated

  • Excellent communication and problem solving skills

 

Pluses:

 

  • Shipped at least one AAA title

  • Strong knowledge of Maya and Zbrush

  • Lit environments and worked with newer lighting models like Enlighten.  

  • Animated environment assets

  • Experience designing assets for modular systems

  • Experience creating artwork in a range of different styles
