Director of Analytics
Pocket Gems, a mobile entertainment company based in San Francisco, is continuously breaking new ground on smartphones and tablets by building graphically rich games, developing fun new genres of entertainment and creating innovative technologies. Launched in 2009, the company has grown to over 200 employees and their games have been downloaded over 200 million times globally. One of our most recent successes, Episode, is a storytelling platform for the 2 billion mobile users around the world that allows user generated animated stories to be created by any author via our online portal. Since launching in 2014, we’ve had over 2 billion chapters read and 4 million writer sign-ups on our platform.
Analytics plays a crucial role in our decision making process, acting as a cornerstone of both our day to day operations and our long-term strategy. We are looking for a talented individuals to organize our analytics efforts and to push the analytics efforts to awesome new territory. We are looking for someone who can work with product teams, finance, and the C-suite to understand and define the big analytics projects that will move the needle. We want someone who can be a trusted voice when formulating strategy. We also need someone who can switch gears and work own analytics agenda, as well as guiding the analytics team, helping them develop, and helping them prioritize the most important projects for the company. We think that our analysts, data scientists, and analytics engineers are working on several projects that are exciting and impactful here at Pocket Gems. We are looking for someone who can help push these projects forward and transition to the next exciting problems.
Work closely with the studio heads to make sure that their analytics teams have the resources and answers that they need.
- Advocate for data driven decision making and work to insure that key decision makers are using the right data and approaches when making important decisions.
- Mentor a team of analysts, data scientists, and data engineers; making sure that they have the guidance and resources they need to succeed and push the boundaries of under at Pocket Gems.
Mentor product managers and content designers when they conduct their own analysis.
- Work with finance to insure that company strategy is supported by data.
Prioritize the company's needs in order to insure that the team is working on the most important tasks.
- Recruit analytics talent to the team and make sure that the team is staffed according to the company's needs.
Perform ad hoc analyses as needed.
Assist in the development of analytics tools and systems to help build out the analytics platform.
3+ years of work experience in data science - experience in quantitative consulting, behavioral modeling,and quantitative research also a plus
- At minimum, one year of experience managing at least 3 people. 2+ years of experience prefered.
- Experience in recruiting.
A graduate degree in quantitative discipline required (economics, statistics, math, physics, engineering etc.)
Strong interest in video games, board games, novels, tv, movies, comics, or other similar entertainment
Experience presenting and explaining technical results to a variety of audiences, including senior executives and key stakeholders
Willingness and excitement to explain your work to key stakeholders in order to help them improve our products
- Strong skills in Excel, SQL and statistics tools such as SAS, R, Python (Numpy or Pandas), or STATA, strongly preferred
